I'm thinking of removing my stock head unit (in a 2000 model S3) and replacing it with an aftermarket Sat Nav unit. Thing is I've heard that I may lose the DIS if I do this. Is it simply the radio display that disappears (could live with that) or are all functions lost (couldn't!). Anyone know for sure?

I know from first hand

All you loose is the radio/CD display

The rest of the information is displayed as normal

Obviously without the Audi head unit sending info to the DIS there is nothing to display

The only thing that put me off changing was that when I enquired with various aftermarket shops, the concert unit powered my sat nav (using DIS screen, I have no centre console screen).
They did not know enough about it to know if it would work separately and even my dealership couldn't help. So I chose not to do it [img]images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img].
I still have my old Alpine CD Changer, but no head unit [img]images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img].

into my cabriolet, yes i lost the radio info on the DIS, but i can live with that.
Had 6 cd changer, satnav, dvd, its wiked!
ill post some piccies later this week, just waiting for the head unit surround adaptors to be delivered to fill the gaps left by the wider audi concert head unit
