RNSE wont update firmware

hi,
I'm trying to add an Aux cable to my RNSE. I have coded the cable and unlocked the Nav drive using
VCDS. I bought a new Nav disc but it wont update my firmware. I was told by the guy that I bought the disc that it could be something to do with a SDS hack but im unusre what this is as I have only recently bought the car.
Any suggestions?
Pete

Wait for PetrolDave to see this and he may well reply (

) - he's a demi-god on the RNSE et al.
It may be something to do with the firmware jump from your base version to the new one if SDS hacked - i.e. it's not incremental. Not sure...
Good luck.

I will add the version from my car below

HW: H73
Map: M1N061018_EN0603
my car is RS4 B7 but i'm sure that doesn't matter

SW 0550 is a genuine Audi version from 2007.
Even if the SDS hack has been done firmware updates normally work OK.
What's the part number of the new DVD you've bought? Is it a burned copy or an original pressed Audi DVD?
It needs to be an 8P0 060 884 (plus version suffix) or 8P0 919 884 (plus version suffix) see
http://audiforum.us/threads/audi-naviga ... bers.6857/ to work with an RNS-E.
BTW many (especially newcomers) buy an "MMI" DVD because the RNS-E startup screen says MMI but it's NOT an MMI device and has absolutely nothing in common with MMI.

thanks for the info.
I did buy one without the MMI in the title.
I just bought it off Ebay. its burned onto a Verbatim disc which I have heard is the right one.
I messaged the seller and he sent me anyone just to make sure it wasn't a faulty disc and it still didn't work. The seller also said that no one else that had bought the disc had this problem.

My unit is a RNS-e 2007 with the same software and HW hardware?
And I am running an Aux cable
Dave,
Would running a 2015 disc in mine update the SW? And if it does what software would it be and what advantages would I gain?
I have a couple of faults on mine that will not clear down with vcd's, but all seams to work ok
Why does a 2010 RNS-e have SW 0220?
Cheers

Yes simply inserting a map DVD with newer firmware will automatically update the RNS-E. The 0650 firmware was introduced in 2008 (and is the last ever firmware for the pre-2010 RNS-E) and has a few extra features such as support for a direct Aux In connection (one not using the CD changer connection).

Not all faults are "blocking".
Faults relating to diversity antenna problems?
The diversity antenna system on the RNS-E is the same as the Series II radios but different to the system on the Series II+ radios - hence you get antenna faults (and worse reception in fringe areas) when retrofitting the RNS-E to a car that had a Series II+ radio.
R1RS4 wrote:Why does a 2010 RNS-e have SW 0220?
Because Audi completely reworked the RNS-E in 2010 (higher resolution screen, faster processor, support for AMI, etc.) so it uses different firmware.

It's not just the disc manufacturer that's important it's also the burning method - as the EU firmware has a (half-hearted) attempt at copy protection. Bear in mind that a burned disc is harder to read and you may find that in cold weather the maps can't be read.
I suggest you find someone with VCDS and do a fault scan on the RNS-E, and clear any faults reported.
Then it's worth trying this trick to force a firmware upgrade:
- with VCDS set adaptation channel 97 to 1
- reinsert the new DVD

Did this today,
2015 disc with upgraded software,
The best improvement was the radio sound, always found it to be lacking in base, but found when using the iPod on Aux all was fine, could never understand why the radio was not the same, very happy now

Excuse my dumb question but where's the best place to buy a genuine 2008 or later disc as I've just this minute decided I'd like a Aux input too!

If it's just the software upgrade you're after pm me. You'll need a coding change as well..

Are Audi/TPS the only source for legit DVD's?
