So first thing to fix on the new toy was the rear wiper which didn't work at all. I had it apart and it was rusted to sh!t, so I bought a replacement motor from eBay which had come from an A3. It had the same valeo part number.
Plugged it in and this is what happens:
Better than it was (since it didn't work at all), and the ebay unit didn't have any rust (took it apart to check before installing it).
Seems to stop / start as it wipes on the return cycle. When the sprayer is activated it runs continuously (correctly) without any start-stopping...
I wondered if the newer motor has a different CAN bus decoder to the original? Perhaps if I swapped over the decoder PCB's that are built into the motor it would work...
If it were an intermittent the stalk connection, I would have thought that it would return smoothly back to the park position when the contact broke?
Or could it be a duff relay? Do these motors even use relays, or are they wired permanently into the power busses and are switched by the integrated CAN decoder (that's in the motor unit)?
Any help please anyone?
Thanks!
Tom.
B5 Rear wiper intermittent with new motor... :(
FIXED: B5 Rear wiper intermittent with new motor... :(
For anyone else who needs this solution...
The electrical contact plate inside the wiper was covered in grease. Taking the cover off the unit, and then cleaning the plate fixed the problem.
