Sat Nav issues

Not sure where to start, but never been very happy with the sat nav in my 2010 C6 RS6.

Bought car in 2010 with upto date mapping detail, drove into France that year and unsurprisingly found some new "unknown" roads the system was not aware of, and some garage brands out of date, fair deal. Roll on to 2012, driving once again into France and also wanted latest Garage updates to chase the V Power supply, so thought I would buy the 2012 map update, which I ( stupidly ) expected to have updated roads and garages included.

1st issue, I paid something like £200 for the map to find out I should have paid yet more for a "key", which is is an absolute outrage, as a superior Tom Tom unit would cost less. daylight robbery. anyway dealer took care of the key cost.

After having this item installed, I set off into to France, lo' and behold I was still driving cross country according to the map, while doing a nice speed on a super smooth motorway around Reims. So in two years the "update" has not been updated and Audi have the audacity to extort money for this?

I have taken the matter up with Audi customer services as this is completely unacceptable to me.

Anyone else had similar experiences? Will update as to how this unfolds.

Audi use map data provided by Navteq (who were bought by Nokia a few years ago).

The official way to report map updates is via the Navteq website, so when in 2005 I noticed that near my home they had:
- roads missing
- roads shown as open that had been closed 30(!) years earlier
- a riverside pub nowhere near the river as the river was shown on the wrong side of the road

It took 6 (yes SIX) years for ANY of these updates to appear on the Audi mapping.

It's not clear to me whether the issue is with Audi or with their supplier Navteq - but as you say whoever is to blame the quality of the mapping on the Audi sat nav systems (MMI or RNS-E or BNS) can be truly appalling, and certainly not worth the ridiculous amount that Audi charge for map updates.

Other things that annoy me with the Audi sat nav systems:
- we have an English voice, but why does she pronounce road numbers in the American fashion? (e.g. she says A three hundred three instead of A three oh three)
- why are places names like Bicester and Fareham pronounced so badly wrong? (Bicester is pronounced as by-ses-ter instead of bis-ter and Fareham is pronounced far-um instead of fair-um)

Audi charge for a premium product but deliver a third rate product IMHO.

I can assure you the pronunciation in French and Italian are equally poor too, causes lots of amusement for my kids !

hey guys, not long had my 2003 RS6 and haven't used the satnav much due to it being so poor it doesn't know what a postcode is. It was working though as I switched the map on a couple of times and I was definitely in the right place.
just recently though it has decided I've converted my car to be amphibious and I'm happily trolling around mid channel. While I think that would be a great idea and save tonnes on ferry fares I haven't in fact done it and I'm still driving around east sussex on proper roads and everything.

Anyone have any idea what's happened... how to fix it and even if there is a way to get the moron system to recognise a postcode?

GPS antenna needs changing

The sharkfin GPS antenna of that age is a known problem area.
