RS4 Avant 20 Reg - few questions.

Hi,

New here so hello all. I have previously searched the forum to see if my questions have been answered but I didn’t come across anything other than a picture in a topic showing 420 miles left in the tank.

First question; what range do you get from a full tank? I’m not new to Audi but I am new to owning the petrol RS model.

Second question; I have seen/read the topic regarding rocker arm failures. The year in question is pre 2019 I take it after watching all videos on YouTube? Or have I got that wrong? I’ve found a RS4 Avant Carbon Black in Black 2020 on 28,000 miles. Stunning machine but until I drive away I’m keeping the feet firmly on the ground before getting to excited.

I’m sure there is a whole load of reasons as to why to own RS, but are there any well known issues with them?

Appreciate any responses..

Regards,
Josh.

Hey,

Mine (2018) shows 450 miles range with a full tank.

The rocker bearing design was changed in 2019, however the only way to be sure would be to identify the engine code. This is on the V5C registration certificate, and the build Sticker in the car (mine is in the boot under the floor tray). DECA is the engine code with the problematic rocker design.

Hi,

Ah brilliant thanks for that, I’ll definitely look at this before anything serious is agreed.

Yeah I’ve seen some photos from browsing online that show a full tank but it can range from 40-60 miles different.

Mine is a 2018, with new rocker arms!
The best I've seen in mine is 420 miles to a tank, with a lightish foot and along run.

Keep an eye on your external temperature you'll notice that when it goes into single digits you MPG will drop and then get better again as the weather gets warmer.

If yours is a 20 plate you shouldn't have any problems with rocker arms.

Enjoy your car

2022, 9.5

I do a lot of sub 20 minute journey's on mostly dual carriageway, so for example, just now the 5 minute average was showing as 14mpg. I normally see sub 250 miles from a tank and generally around 20-22 mpg-ish. I have seen 400+ miles a few times driving long distances (eg UK to Germany) with a lot of the time spent on auto cruise control and with little congestion, so it can be done (but for me thats twice a year not every day).

Your experience may vary and Im not pretending to be average so please don't be alarmed.

I'll correct myself, filled up with E5 yesterday and it was showing 415. I think 420 might be what I normally see.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it.

I’ll be topping up 300-400 miles a week as this will be used as a daily, but it will be motorway miles give or take 2 miles to get on & off. I’m hoping it’s once a week fill up rather then several 😂..

Not quite right DECA is just the engine code even a 2024 rs4 will have a DECA engine. After late 2019 they changed to the superceeded rocker arm bearings

Ah thanks for the correction! Is there a code designation that indicates the flawed design, or is just a case of inspecting manually with a boroscope?
