B9.5 RS 4 Sounding a bit rough

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone knew if the below sound at idle is normal for the B9.5 RE 4. I’ve had Audi assist out and they’ve said it’s just the sound of the engine but somethings telling me there’s more to it.
Most noticeable when gearbox is in S between 1000/2000rpm.

Thanks

Very hard to tell from video/audio but doesn't sound terrible. If it is stationary but with a gear selected it can hunt slightly sometimes. Sorry not a lot of help!

Not at all, thank you for replying. Audi assist have said the same. I’ve asked someone else on insta to send me a vid of their at idle and the noise is present there, just surprised at how loud it is and don’t understand how I haven’t heard it before.

Listening to it there seems to be a bit of a knock noise, probably half crank speed - camshaft?
When my 2020 F3 RSQ3 had a similar noise the dealer said 'normal' when in fact one of the camshaft actuating followers with a roller that follows that cam profiles was broken - eventually completely failed when the caged needle rollers inside the cam-following roller locked up, shattered and destroyed the engine. The 2.9TFSI has a similar set up and there are modified parts available to fix it.

Not that familiar with a B9 RS4 Engine IE I've never driven one or even been in one, but that just doesn't sound "natural" to me.. hopefully it's easily explained, however RS4John's comments and the complexity of these engines would have me book that in if it was mine, might be nothing might be something.. sorry man, not much help either.. but may help you decide what to do..

Thanks all, it definitely doesn’t sound right to my ears. I’ve rang customer care, Audi assist and the bookings line for maintenance. Still can’t get in until January so audit assist are coming back out tomorrow and hopefully I can get them to recover to the dealership. What happens post that who knows.

Thanks so much, that sounds horrifying. Sort of wishing I’d stuck with Mercedes at this point…

It’s hard to tell. Do you have a longer clip? I can do a comparison with my B9.5 RS Vorsprung

Yeah of course thank you, I think it loses a bit of clarity when I upload but the I think you can hear the knocking noise fairly clearly on this one.

This one is a bit shorter but feel like the noise is clearest in this one.

Hi mate yours does sound a tad different at idle than my ‘22 RS but hard to tell with the video. Where is the country are you? You could meet a nearby member if poss for a comparison.
How did the Audi Assist visit go?

Are you sure its not a nackered sound actuator making that noise

It’s interesting you say that, the first Audi assist bloke did suggest that, that would explain why you can’t hear anything outside of the car. I mean fingers crossed it’s that as I assume it’s a relatively straight forward fix?

Just received a call to say that’s the issue, actuator behind the dashboard is where the noise is coming from, part ordered and car ready by Friday. So good news hopefully.

I was just going to post that mine makes the same noise and its 100% the noise actuator.
