Just looking to vent my frustration tonight! Been searching for the right spec (IMO) for months now. Twice now someone has beat me by minutes putting a deposit down.
Seems I’m not the only one on the hunt.
Looking for a Nardo grey, pan roof, sports exhaust, DRC, matrix h.lights and any carbon would be a bonus. Also red stitching and flat bottom steering.

Factory order? or be less restrictive if you are looking secondhand?

If you are very specific you limit your pool and run the risk of overpaying for it....

Keep looking, normally takes me around 6 to 8 months to find the right car. How long have you been hunting.

Been looking on and off for 6 months. Last 10 weeks I’ve been looking almost every day. I prefer the pre face lift front end

To echo the others-keep looking and the right car will come up. Usually takes me at least 2-3 months of constant searching and yes when you see the right car you need to get straight in it as you have found out. My B9 has every option bar carbon pack and CCB’s and I was lucky enough to see it on Audi site almost as soon as it went up with ‘photos to follow’.
The dealer told me that they had people calling up to see it when I was on the way down hence why I put a deposit on it same day.
If you settle for a car you don’t 100% want you will live in regret when you see one that has.
It has been stated-buy new and spec it to your taste. Then wince on resale time.....

Always tough finding the right spec. I was the same as you and eventually conceded on the pan roof as nothing came up and couldn't wait any longer.

I was lucky to find the exact combo I wanted and got it straight away. I think it helped that I didn’t want the carbon/black edition as I preferred the silver trims. Most people want the black out look, but not me. Nardo Grey, Pano roof and Red Calipers.

My car sounds ideal for the OP but sold Mar 19

I'm the same Avantgarde - prefer the silver trim, provides a better visual cue to the shape of the car...not helped by the 1st part of my working life being in a Ford dealer in the 70s...the cars with black trim were the base 'poverty' models....still stuck in my head to this day.

The DRC bit is the rare option that's hard to find I expect? It was my experience that DRC in conjunction with the standard Sport Diff is, without doubt a very capable combination, the Sport Diff makes the RS4 feel alive then DRC goes and spoils the driving experience by being a bit too clever.

Don't get me wrong, DRC is awesomely competent at keeping the car 'flat' under acceleration, braking and cornering at the expense of robbing you of the pleasure of driving a quick car well, there is simply no sensation of speed or on-the-edge of a disaster cornering. Its a deeply unrewarding ownership experience in a incredible fast road-car and if you add to that the fact that DRC has a chequered history of reliability then I'd think very carefully about having it again.

Yes, that’s exactly it, the black trim version of anything in my mind is the lower spec. I guess we come from a different generation.

I'm that generation too - which is why my SQ5 was a deep metallic red with chrome (that and there was no black pack available then...). I then had a very dark grey (Singapore to those in the know) M5 with satin black trim - except the grilles, side trims and badges which I steadfastly refused to change to black as I liked the contrast...

But when I was picking this car I wanted a change of colour - no more greys or blues. And against the metallic white I much preferred the black pack. Helps also that the wheels are black and easier to refurb than diamond cut....

There is so much that is personal about the spec of cars, its why we can have so many permutations.

For me, if I was buying a performance car secondhand I would be much more interested in the condition and ownership provenance than the exact spec but I am a risk manager by trade so I guess I overindex on that front....
