Hi All,
Just got back from an epic road trip in my RS4 down to Lake Annecy.
On the way home i started to notice some vibration in the steering wheel and pedal when braking. I haven't had anything checked properly yet but am thinking this is probably caused by worn brake discs. Is there anything else that could cause these symptoms? Also is it normal for discs to need replacing at around 30K miles?
Thanks,
James
Vibration when braking
Re: Vibration when braking
it could be just pad deposits on your disk usually happens when you do a lot f stop start slow traffic driving
try some hard braking 70 to 10 Mph 5 to 8 time in a row don't stop and continue to drive with out using the brakes for about 5 to 10 mins to allow the disks to cool again this will remove any pad deposit and clean the disks this should sort out any vibration
this is the technique i have used on all my previous RS4's and have had no issues https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/inde ... =6446_6443
and as for disk life it all depends on your drive style i usually get about 20 25k out of mine and i don't drive like the district nurse

Thank you. I will give this a try.Brooner wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 3:18 pmit could be just pad deposits on your disk usually happens when you do a lot f stop start slow traffic driving

Re: Vibration when braking
Does anyone know what the minimum recommended disc thickness is on a B9 RS4?
Re: Vibration when braking
The vibration could be one or a combination of things.
Loose wheel bolt, it does happen especially to people who insist on putting copperslip on the threads. It doesn't do the bolts any harm, it just completely screws up the torque settings and will increase the chance of them walking themselves backout! I wonder why the manufacturers don't do it?
Have you lost any wheel weights?
Any missing pad retaining hardware from the caliper?
Are the pads free to move and not jammed up with road dirt and brake dust?
Disc warping due to over heating, I had it due to a sticking caliper piston once.
Brake pad material transfer.
How much lip is there on the outer edge of the disc and is it catching the pad as you start to brake, causing the pad to oscilate as it is not meeting the disc flat.
Is there something between the disc and the wheel hub, which will cause the disc to runout.
Disc thichnesses
Front type 1LM New = 36mm Wear Limit = 34mm
Rear type 1KP New = 22mm Wear Limit = 20mm
You can find your brake type on your build ticket.

Re: Vibration when braking
So i re-bedded my breaks a couple of nights ago when the roads were quiet. I am very happy to say, it seems to have done the trick! Makes complete sense after my recent road trip.
I also checked the thickness of my disks and they are within the limits.
Thanks for the assistance!
