The day you up the power the day the box will deteriorate.

I managed to shear my input shaft on my 900ps which has an updated box already so it's one of them things. When it went back to get sorted I had the new input shaft and also had to have new clutch plates as the ones on there which where less than 2 years old (uprated) should signs of heat spots so keeping on top of it is paramount I think.

Speaking to Ricky about this when I got the car back we are going to service the gearbox oil every 6 months as I think the oil degrades pretty fast on these with the power.

Was going to text you an update Ian, you have the extra torque dialled in?

Trups
Completely understand that but how long have people been running stage 2 before seeing signs of a gearbox failure?

I know this will differ car by car obviously.

Yes there has just not documented.
Too much power is barely enough.

Ian if you get any bigger brakes you'll have to externally mount them or cut them in half and have two calipers as per the Mercedes Maybach!

Told y'all that a shitstorm be a brewin'.
Now, I'm thinking of buy some new plates for my man cave. I've heard ceramics are good but steel plates don't break. Any thoughts?

Ian, any other mods planned? You ever thought about toying with the diffs?

Hi Bam, "other mods" - I've a whole bunch of stuff I'd love to do/try (CF Propshaft, move the various coolers from the front to the archs and fit a front mount IC, CNC heads etc) and I've spoken to various companies about the feasibility but financially I'm in no position to do anything new & untested right now, unless I win big on the lottery in which case WooHoo :D

What kind of Diff work were you thinking about, uprated LSD etc?

Yeah, swapping out the rear diff. I know the B5 lads have fit LSDs front and rear but it's hard to get any feedback from them. I cannot imagine a CF propshaft on your car, I know of a couple that have shattered on lower powah cars. MRC ran one for a couple of months on a mild B5 RS4 and it just disintegrated one day, that was more than 5 years ago.

If somehow the ZF8 could be made to fit and all the electronics made to to sync. That'd be the ultimate mod.

The C6 powerplant mated to that would be a weapon in standard form. With your mods Ian... what a machine!!

I wonder if the ZF8 could handle the torque, but a newer faster changing DSG box matted to the V10 would be a match made in heaven but then you have the whole handling issue........

It runs into the same issue as fitting a C5 with a C6 box, the front driveshafts don't line up and would require a completely custom front end building on the car to make it all fit. It's a shame the gearbox cases are all so different meaning that the internals couldn't be moved around :(

That'd be my worry. There's an aerospace company just next to MRC which make CF propshafts for motorsport, aerospace etc and when I chatted to them they seemed quite confident that the one they made for Keith Cowies 1250hp Drag R32 Skyline with a 4000nm limit would be strong enough on mine.

It all comes down to cost again with R&D expenses & potential failure cost (metal propshaft is cheaper than CF) etc all adding up but again, with a lottery win, I'd love to give it a go!

As always the time effort and money you guys plough into modding your cars is amazing! Good to see at this end of the market its all good 'sensible' mods that will make a real difference (as opposed to having a 747 wing as a spoiler and a dustbin for an exhaust)
