I notice a big difference coming from an e60 m5 , no matter what you do with the traction control in the rs6 it's fast but safe , where as I drove the m5 always with no driving aids and gearbox in its fastest change setting and it felt like a monster ! Shame the rs6 will never be a true drivers car but just a very good point to point missile

That's the big problem with RWD cars especially from M and AMG-putting the power down effectively on the road. Yes it's more adjustable and an AWD system increases weight but in our wet climate (great Summer so far eh?! ) it makes so much more sense. I'm not missing slithering around and having to dial the speed in to get going at all-the RS ticks so many boxes (apart from the one that spends all my money!) that it's hard to beat. The first RS6 I drove was pushing over 700 bhp and it blew me away. Stock isn't exactly sluggish but the tuned ones are in a different league. Looking forward to getting line done. As for the AMG noise...incredible sound! M has never been able to match that (save the M3 CSL).

Haha Steve, I don't think it's a problem with RWD more a characteristic. I've driven both over the years and enjoyed both. I'm looking forward to test driving an RS6 soon and will post my thoughts in a separate thread, as this great thread is going slightly off topic.

Yeah fair enough mate I just had 18 years of RWD and so am enjoying the grip! My very first observation when I drove a 700 bhp RS6 Avant was how cleanly it got off the line and how instant the power was. Enjoy the test drive-you'll be hooked and into one in no time. I was!

Rs6_sid is your car standard? If so how does it compare power wise to the M5?

Trouble with the E60 M5 was the lack of low down torque so you had to rev the nuts off it to make progress. Proper screamer of an engine though. I can remember a Russian guy getting filmed driving both the M5 and the C6 RS6 and then measuring his heartbeat straight afterwards-the M5 had his racing like a good un. I didn't choose the M5 for a few reasons the clunky gearbox being one of them.

I loved the m5 gearbox is only clunky in slow gearbox speed I drove it in m mode with no traction control on which gave you the additional gearbox speed , just a slight lift off when changing was spot on , was comparative to be honest I'd say m5 felt faster but I know my rs6 is actually faster , when you get the s85 engine revving hard it's like nothing else iv experienced !

My only complaint was that the gears changed that hard if you didn't lift it was like dumping the clutch with 500hp and it shot you all over the place ! But to drive it felt better than the 6 but you cannt win it all I know one I have mine mapped it will be better again along with handling mods

Update time - New brakes arrived!!!!

AP Racing 410mm discs mated to Radi-Cal CP8522 Calipers mounted on custom made brackets by BG Developments who do all of AP Racings Customs work. I've also got AP Racings DS-25pads (Ferodo DS2500 compound), HEL brake lines and Castrol SRF fluid.

I'm doing the ASDA charity trackday again on the 6th so, now I've got an extra 180hp over last year, we'll see how they cope with multiple 175+ to 30mph stops. Last year when I was at 730hp the OEM Caliper with AP- Racing 390mm discs, DS2500 pads and ATE Superblue fluid it did 49 160+ to 30mph stops with only a tiny bit of fade in stopping power but a longer pedal travel throughout the day so I'm hoping for much better from these.

Once I get these fitted on the 2nd I'll put up a full review with more pics and fitting guide etc.

On a slightly separate note, how long do we envisage the gearbox lasting with a stage 2 map if driven fairly hard?

The day you up the power the day the box will deteriorate.

I managed to shear my input shaft on my 900ps which has an updated box already so it's one of them things. When it went back to get sorted I had the new input shaft and also had to have new clutch plates as the ones on there which where less than 2 years old (uprated) should signs of heat spots so keeping on top of it is paramount I think.

Speaking to Ricky about this when I got the car back we are going to service the gearbox oil every 6 months as I think the oil degrades pretty fast on these with the power.

Was going to text you an update Ian, you have the extra torque dialled in?

Ian - Hats off to you mate! I remember you telling me about the planned upgrades at the boxhill meet/tunnel run but I somehow missed this thread. Awesome work! The torque curve especially on the plot looks brilliant - overtakes must be so quick.

Can I also commend you on your photography! Love that long exposure shot with the car pulled over on the hard shoulder.

Trups - No not yet, I'm still waiting on some replies from IC makers as I wanted to change the IC's and remap it at the same time but due to the time it's taking I may end up leaving my KWE IC's as they are (they still work well) and getting the extra torque mapped in alone just to get it done. Probably be September sometime.

Faisal - Cheers dude, the photography has taken a back seat recently and I really don't know why but I just can't find time for it at the moment (can't be arsed :D)

Here's one more pic to show the size of these calipers! -

Ian.... You've spent so much on your old brakes set up and now these so why not just go for the Ceramics?. A friend bought some brand new AP discs for his C7 RS6 and they were Fecked ( warped ) within 1k miles. Told you about those cheap IC's but you wouldn't listen lol :)
Too much power is barely enough.
