What Spring Rates are you running?

Been looking into harder springs, I wanted to do some research and find out what others are running? I have searched the forum but can't find anything. Here is a list from Audiworld......

Stock S4 suspension:......Fix ride.../350/290
Vogtland/Koni:...............Fix ride.../400/360
Stasis Street Sport:......Adjustable./400/390
H&R coilover:...............Adjustable./450/450 sedan /450/475 Avant
Vogtland coilover:........Adjustable./550/490 or /670/630
Eibach Pro-Street S:.....Adjustable./
KW V2 Coilovers:.........Adjustable./
Bilstien PSS9:..............Adjustable./

Vogtland GT:...............Adjustable./575/650
Stasis Track Sport:.......Adjustable./500/600 or 600/700 or 700/800

I know not all of these are available in the uk, its just for comparison, I hope to have the KW info soon from their email support line. The RS4 is supposed to be slightly heavier (80kg?) so I am not sure if the manufacturers make any change for this? I don't think so. most of the extra is supposed to be in unsprung weight anyway.

The last two setups have harder rears than fronts which is supposed to help remove the understeer and make the car more neutral?

Does any one have any other info that would be helpful? or other spring rates to help me decide and give some more reference for folks looking at upgrades?

Thanks

Nigel.

I'm running 800 front and 1000 rears with the Stasis Ohlins. Actually it's quite comfortable and the roads here in Colorado leave a lot to be desired...

Thanks Doc

I'm gonna uprate the springs in the next week or so, using racing coilover fixed rate springs, probably 600/700 as the roads here are terrible. This means the springs will be like the Stasis/Tein - one diameter all the way up, not like the KW or HR which are stock dia at the top.

I will cut the front rubbers like the stasis install and get some reducer adapters made up for the rears. This means I can change to any spring rate I want after that.

The KW I have now are ok, but too soft, I have been trying to get the spring rates from them but with no luck, thats why I asked on here to get some benchmarks but the US S4 forums are much better for this sort of info

At the moment I am the soft springs + stiff ARBs setup, just wanted to try other combinations.

Thanks

Nigel.

Info for the KW coilovers......

KW V2 Coilovers:.........Adjustable./675/380

Info from KW help line, but both these springs are vairiable rate so I think these may be the high values in the range of the spring?.

To convert from N/mm to lbs multiply by 5.714
Conversion and info page....

Like everything I seem to have done with the car over the last 2 months, this got held up as well, anyway I finally got to the Apex spring shop here and spoke to the tech/racing advisor bloke.

Now he thinks based on the weight of the car 500 front 450 rear?

he said the only way to know is to fit them and try, but the set of 4 are 350 euros so I dont fancy getting loads more sets.

And in the diameter and lengths I want (10" - 250mm/70mm front and 8" 200mm/64 rear) they only do max 610lbs in front and 500lbs rear. These are all single spring rate with no helper springs.

The 610 fronts look very very thick!

Any advice as to which way to go?

Oh and looking at those 610 springs there is no way my KW fronts are 675.

Hmm... actually, I'd like to know what the stock spring rate is, and what the reasoning is. I know what I want from my car, and this could actually be something I need to know to achieve what I want.

On this board I agree, most people just don't seem to talk about the numbers.

700/800 Stasis motor sport. Did run 900 rear but i found it very stiff for UK roads and hard to find a soft damper setting without the car bouncing up and down at the rear the whole time. 900 also tipped the balance to over steer much more.
