On the Rollers

Post by jeffw » Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:17 pm

I'm off to the Pistonheads Rolling Road day tomorrow at Surrey Rolling Road in Cobham...

I'm guessing that I'll get around the 420-430 BHP mark....anyone else want to hazard a guess ?

Spec is

K04s
Full Milltek include downpipes (single system with 200 cell cats)
RS4 ICs
730cc injectors
Bosch Motorsport fuel pump
MRC remap

Surrey Rolling Road hold events for a few forums I think and are hopefully very experienced.

I believe the dyno is a DynoDynamics.

Make sure you get some figures at the wheels. I think the flywheel/crank or whatever you all the other figures will be a bit lower than you really expect (whether thats those posted above or not), but higher or lower it's the power at the wheels I think you should be sure to come away with.

KayGee got 312 BHP @ the wheels on the same dyno dynamics dyno I had my S4 on.

My uneducated eye looking at your spec above and KayGee's signature thinks KayGee's car just pips you on spec, but otherwise quite similar.

My money is on 302.4BHP @ the wheels :D

I'm going for 383 at the flywheel. If it's closest wins I want to be the lowest. See if you can get a copy of the graph to publish, that would be great. What was Leons(zeroK) supposed to be in the end. Last I read was anything from 430 to 500 ?

although all this power talk is fairly interesting, I think its the 0-60, 3-70 and 0-100 times (both in-gear and through the gears) that are more important, can you get these from a rolling road session?

I know the times are related to the power, but its difficult to judge in real terms what 50, 70, 100BHP etc will make, its pretty sure that the difference the extra power will make becomes less the more you start with. ie it requires a lot more power increase to feel the difference if you have 500BHP than if you have 100BHP to start with.

Going on from this, there must be an upper limit where if you have a certain BHP already, then you will need so much more to gain an appreciable difference that its just not worth it, in which case it is then time to start lightening the car up to feel the difference. is there a rough equation that relates KG to power? ie removing 10KG in weight give same effect as gaining 50BHP?

Jeff sorry if thats off topic! my guess is 420 crank BHP, 345 at the wheels. what is required to take your spec upto MRC 500? just lowered compression?

Manifolds and lower CR & the FMIC...as far as I know...probable a decat.

I don't actually know how much boost the car is running at the moment.

Better intake pipes too + LWFW I think.

Do you have a fats time? or a max maf reading?

I'm triying to get the maximum info before I 'guess' ;)

That's cheating....pre ICs being fitted FATS was 4.0 (2 up) and MAF max was 320...

Based on latest FATS run estimated only at 400HP :'( - but I did have a slight miss-fire which got worse and worse. It is better now, not done a re-run. I will try rolling road it before and after the downpipes & exhaust is changed around month end. Lets hope I see or get very close to the magical 500.

Thats pretty much identical spec as my car and mine made 376bhp @ the flywheel on that very rolling road 6 months ago. However more importantly over 450 lb/ft of torque.

I will be interested to see what your makes especially if it makes 430bhp as 50bhp difference on virtually identical setups would need some explaining.
