REALLY NOT happy right now. Just went for a little drive around cos I was getting a bit nostalgic of my poor RS4 sat out in the cold for the last day and a half. Warmed up nicely, and was just giving it some poke up the hill to my house and BOOM. Boost was low, around standard, nothing particularly hairy going on, but it's NOT happy. Something big and bad has broken and I'm SCARED. It was as I lifted off, which is lucky in a way because I dipped the clutch and just rolled onto my drive, turned it off and came inside. I don't want to check in case it's BAD. I've got a REALLY bad feeling that something nasty along the lines of engine oil kit has gone, cos there was that kinda smell, and I think I noticed some blue smoke coming frm underneath the car as I checked my mirros to turn into my drive. Gonna let it cool down then check it out. MY BABY!

Sorry about the delay - urgent call from work. BAD TIMING or what?! I've had a look and it doesn't appear that anything's wrong at all, so nothing's fallen off. All the hoses etc. are all in place, and there's no obvious signs of oil leakage. Debating whether to try and start her up again and see if I can deduce anything further from there. I'm sharing the opinion that one of my turbo bearings may have gone and shagged the whole lot up. Guess I'm on baked beans and toast for a month or two then! Gotta save my pennies!

If it is a turbo, then to be honest mate, if you are running 1.8bar, then it would be only a matter of time before this occured

BTW dont mean to kick you while you're down

Whats the safe upper level on boost then?

yes, AMD run 1.7 spikes on S3s (alledgedly) - same turbos as RS4

I think I am running 1.55 on my S3 atm but need RR to confirm

I boost to a maximum of 1.8, but I rarely run it at that. Normally it hovers around 1.2 or so, well, when I'm in the hooning mood anyway! It's all been checker out in the past, and some work was done (don't ask me what, as I've said before, turbos aren't my thing really), that reinforced it all basically. I've got mutt's nutts hoses and all that malarkey, a beast of a dump valve (a nice quiet one though), and everything through the whole system was thought of, and checked for use up to 2 bar. So definately not just a matter of me running it up too high. Hmmmm, I just don't know

Well yeah, I've got two dump valves, but only one type is what I meant! Cheeky bugger! I thought, since it went boom when I lifted off, that the DV's might be something to do with it, but I've just checked them out and they're fine. Springs are working nicely, no stickyness, nothing. BAFFLED

I'm scared! I don't have as much money as you guys for when it all goes KABOOM! You're right though. I've got a buddy coming over tomorrow to have a look, so I'll see what he says. I've got a gut feeling that something in one of the cylinders has gone. Don't know why, but I'm getting the broken valve feeling. Hmmm. No reasoning behind it, we'll just have to wait and see. I'm thinking I might start her up now and see what happens though. Just don't want to make anything worse
