I'm not sure why we should worry about fitting them on cars that don't have drilled brakes. The Phaeton they are fitted to as standard has non drilled or slotted discs.
I have personal experience of them causing this problem during a typical UK downpour on the motorway, even with my slotted disks! The Phaeton is about 12" higher than the S4. Have you've seen an S4/RS4 with them fitted, the scoop is the lowest point on the car and sticks out undeneath the plastic engine cover thing by about 30mm.

when i tried to fit mine i noticed that none of the holes lined up so i never drilled any i just put them back on my shelf..now with what nige has pointed out could the holes be drilled so to keep the ducts upwards and not pointing dwn..mite not pull in so much water that way..

Woody, did you get the Phaeton backplates too, as the ducts bolt onto these?

p.s. if you point the ducts upwards, you will lose the majority of the cooling effect! I personally think that the best solution is to fit the backing plates in advance (you need to take the disc off to do this) and then just bolt the scoops on for track days (5 min job per side that can be done with the wheel still on).

I'm now wondering if I can be bothered to do it at all, I don't intend to track the car at all...

If you are not going to track your there is no point doing it! It will only give you more street cred ;) "hey look at my brake cooling"

Seriously, your brakes will never get hot enough to warrant it on the road.

Nige it will be very difficult to remove the ducts with the discs in place and a real hassle each time.

I have had no problems with mine on wet days. I have slotted discs.

I decided for the price I might as well give it a go...

Have you actually tried removing them (the ducts only), as I'm not exactly mechanically minded, but I managed to do it in no time by turning the wheel on full lock and jacking the car up a bit! I would imagine that if you left them on for a while, removing them might ne mote difficult as the bolts could sieze, however just adding them for track days should be pretty straight forward?

Just my thoughts.

Mark, yes, but unless your car has been lowered significantly, it does stick out below the undertray ... just!
