Brake ducts..
Congradulations
To DaveP - My first post - to congradulate you! I am a Phaeton owner and was offering this as an idea for RS6 guys to cool their brakes. Glad to see the concept works on the S4/RS4. Please try to save a few parts in case us Phaeton owners ever need them, LOL.

So will these go on my RS6?paldi wrote:To DaveP - My first post - to congradulate you! I am a Phaeton owner and was offering this as an idea for RS6 guys to cool their brakes. Glad to see the concept works on the S4/RS4. Please try to save a few parts in case us Phaeton owners ever need them, LOL.
The brake fade is one of the real dissappointments with the RS6, anything to help this would be a real bonus.
Re: Congradulations
Damon - on the basis that the RS6 calipers and discs fit on the S4 and RS4 with little modification, I see no reason why the Phaeton ducts won't go on your RS6, but I could be wrong!rs666 wrote: So will these go on my RS6?

RE: Re: Congradulations
Damon, I wouldn't recommended the ducts for non-drilled/slotted discs, as they can (and do) scoop water up on the S4/RS4 and deposit them between the pad and the disc (might be different on the RS6).

Agreed, but I think Damon is using the RS6+ (drilled) discs?Nige_S4 wrote:Damon, I wouldn't recommended the ducts for non-drilled/slotted discs, as they can (and do) scoop water up on the S4/RS4 and deposit them between the pad and the disc (might be different on the RS6).

RE: Re: RE: Re: Congradulations
Yep, cross-drilled (when I clean them out
)

RE: Re: RE: Re: Congradulations
So what were the parts costs? Assuming you need to order the bolts too.
RE: Re: RE: Re: Congradulations
Damon,
Sorry I didnt get to meet you last night.
The Phaeton ducts are about £65 from a VW dealer, but I'm not sure if that includes the bolts too.

RE: Re: RE: Re: Congradulations
No worries Clive, will catch you again.
So what would you estimate for fitting time? Going to APS on Saturday for some Nurburgring prep and thought I might get them banged on. With a proper ramp and workshop what do you think?

RE: Re: RE: Re: Congradulations
Damon,
I fitted mine (for "I" read "shineydave"!) when we changed the brakes.
Whether you use a ramp or not, it's wheels and discs off, but it's an easy job, just a few bolts. The time taken is really down to how quickly you can whip the wheels, calipers, and discs off (I'd say 20-30mins a side, incl fitting the ducts).
On the S4/RS4, it also involves cutting a small piece out of each splashguard in order to stop the disc fouling in this area, but you may not have this issue on the RS6. The only way to find out is to offer it all up and rotate with a disc in place, see where it fouls (if at all) and that's the bit you need to cut out. This will all add to the time of course, if it's necessary.

Brake ducts
I'm not sure why we should worry about fitting them on cars that don't have drilled brakes. The Phaeton they are fitted to as standard has non drilled or slotted discs.Nige_RS4 wrote:Damon, I wouldn't recommended the ducts for non-drilled/slotted discs, as they can (and do) scoop water up on the S4/RS4 and deposit them between the pad and the disc (might be different on the RS6).
By the way the scoops are on back order, non available in the country
