Oil starvation issues, merc have just face lifted the a45 with more power than the rs3, better car IMO

The A45 is at the other extreme, looks a bit too Halfords and the noise seems a bit fake.

Dirty four pots. Pffft.

Though it pains me to say Golf R is the win in this space.

Golf is too bland in my opinion.
And the AMG interior looks like a graphics card in my sons gaming PC.
I like the in yer face exterior styling of the AMG but it looks like the non AMG a bit too much. And the 4 pot doesn't sound as good as the 5 pot.
The RS has it's flaws too but is the best of the 3 in my opinion (I'm not buying it anyway, the wife probably will).

Dunno, I think Golf and RS3 are two sides of a square. The RS3 is not exactly standout. It's complete lack of noise up the hill at Goodwood was a real disappointment. Audi are not scoring well on the theatre front.

Golf is cheaper and R4xx to come.....

Golf R £30k or stupid cheap lease vs. a £50k RS 3 is a no brainer

I'd rather pay 50k for the RS. Golf does nothing for me, looks like a tdi with 4 exhausts. I'd rather keep her current S3 than buy the golf.

£53k for an A3 is pure madness, even if it had a V8 under the hood !

Specced with discount it came to £45k. I'm sure the golf with options would be £35k at least. For 10k difference I'd take the RS plus the RS will be rarer than the golf so over 3 years with residuals the difference could be even less.

It would also be madness to pay £35k for the R when they can be leased for a bag of crisps a week

Don't think you can assume RS3 will be lower volume. Audi are pushing this and will support it to shift volume. The old days of limited volume RS cars is long gone. It's car supermarket time.

It will be lower volume, just look at the comments above; golf r will outsell it easily.

Yep, but Audi will support financially, they will shift volume. Maybe not Golf volume but equally not a hundredth.

I've just sold my wife's Golf R after 8 months, bought for £28100, sold to the trade for £27350. If I was more patient I probably could have scored a small profit. Very capable car but it's just a fast Golf at the end of the day. I'm sure the RS3 will be better, but not £15k better.

I'm currently running the new RS 3, took it on a 300 mile trip to Goodwood and back today - mainly motorway, but will try some of the roads I know well and benchmark on later. Thoughts so far.

Performance - Pretty much everything feels slow after the C6, this is the same. Whereas the C6 would be belting down the motorway, this is still accelerating down the slip road. Not really a relavant comparo, I know, but it does skew my sense of G Force.

The best thing about it is the noise, this one has the factory sports exhuast it set a car alarm off yesterday, it is VERY loud, and sounds epic. It pops and crackles at any opportunity and genuinely reminds you of a group B S1 quattro.

Attention - It gets loads, which surprised me. I had a guy cut across traffic in an older shape S3 to take a closer look. And have had two people in traffic usher me to put my window down to talk about it.

Steering - Unlike the latest TT, it seems typically Audi. That's all I'll say, but I do want to drive it down some more familiar roads and routes.

I'm off out for a drive now, can't get enough of that five pot sound.
