My speedo has died. No warning - it simply stopped working.
I've replaced the sensor 012409191D (£16) to no avail. Needle has twitched a couple of times but never fully engaged again.
From a couple of other web sources it seems the drive gear that the sensor slots into may have gone. This is part 012409187C (about £10).
I've also been told it might be the speedo head, which costs closer to £200.
Any one else experienced this or able to offer advice as to solving the issue?

Speedo heads do go but i'd be more inclined to investigate the drive gear first. If the needle twitches when your driving, try tapping the top of the instrument binicle to see if that helps. Also, make sure the dials aren't peeling round the needles, more common on S2's, especially around the rev counter.
Many thanks. Will try replacing the drive unit first. There's no peeling around the needle and it literally was working fine when I drove it one night, then wasn't working in to morning.
I had one motorway journey when came back to life by twitching a little (needle didn't rise much), but then this didn't happen again after I'd stopped the car and restarted again. Will give it a bit of a tap to see if the old percussive maintenance works!
Cheers!
