Awesome day yesterday, started dry and fine, ended up like a monsoon! Interesting driving in the wet watching nige play with his ESP on 888's!!!
Stumpy was there too, his wb went well.

I'll let the guys share their stories as they wish. Personally, I loved it. The R8 is so well balanced and feels right at home on circuit. I ran uprated pads and fluid which stopped the brake fade I had at castle coombe and found the next weak point in the tyres when they're hot, could be pressures but most likely just because they are crap pirelli's....roll on the pilot super sports next!

A few pics, more to follow I'm sure...

Nigel on 888 in the wet must of been fun, what did you think of the new layout?

Thought it was a great circuit paul, good surface, couple of tricky bends and two great long straights that were my hunting ground for the day!

Its now one of my favourites, much more technical than before, I was there last year for the first track day on the new 300 layout.

I will be back there this year too.

You must of been one of the quickest out there.

What other track days do you have planned?

There was a Clio there that was rapido, touring car spec sort of thing... A radical there too but didn't see it on track.

Nothing passed me on the day other than nige!

Had one Elise have a big moment in front of me at one point and when pax with nige in his another Elise nearly took his drivers side off!!!

Those Elise's can be tricky especially if its greasy.

Did either of you bother with track insurance?

From being in mine to Pax with nige was night and day in terms of grip! They we're astonishing and seemed to just get better and better. They even looked good in the when the track was newly wet.

Fantastic day, less than 30 cars!! and OPL meant we had the track almost to ourselves most of the time, actually think we did when it got wet in the afternoon – love the circuit !!.

Car was ridiculously quick on the 888's even in the wet, not sure what all the fuss is about there? I even took the ESP off in the wet to get some more sideways action but as much fun as that was after one big drift onto the back straight at high speed my Px’s face convinced me to put it back on. Even on the way home in torrential rain and I mean rivers running down the A11 the tyres were fine... just felt sorry for Dave behind as the spray they generate is mad

Brakes were brilliant, had Castrol SRF fluid put in and ran on the std steels (CC’s on next week!) for up to 30mins at a time with zero fade, only reason I was coming in was my own tiredness and the sweat running into my eyes hehe car felt happy to stay out all day apart the noise......

Got black flagged twice and summoned to race control 2nd time to be shown a graph that goes to the council where I was 99db on drive by (98 limit) near same as a LMP1 car testing the day before... and that was with Valves closed BUT at just over 6k and WOT and on high rpm blipped down changes the valves still open on demand so I had to be on best behaviour. It must be the pitch of the V10, they said they have issue with V10’s in std config and there was a lot of what I thought very loud cars there too.... hey Daves V8 with Milly is no silent assassin!! Didn’t spoil the day in any way so all good.

Back to tyre Shop yesterday for a new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports, have heard real good things about these too, 3 sets of tyres on car in 2 days, loads left on the 888’s for next time though ;-)

Will get some pics up tonight.

Just talking from experience in the lotus world as many track drivers use these (or yoko 48s which I have and look very similar)

For us they are not good in standing water when they are part worn and you will see many struggle with them in the wet overall.

I guess combination of your car being a lot heavier and of course quattro

Some of my friends run their GTRs on the 888s

They are a great tyre

Don't know what tyre wear/life is like on yours but I'll do a set of rears on mine in 1000-1250 miles

Who was that Stumpy?

30 cars wow! I am shocked.

Sounds like the car was a dream on the R888, have to agree, I shaved a few seconds off my Cadwell lap time when I fitted mine.

Likely that's the answer, tyres hardly worn now as put about 30 laps on them in the dry then the PM was wet so protected them, I have a couple of friends run them all the time on street cars but I wanted to put the PSS's on they are supposed to be excellent accoring to the R8 and Porsche forums. Plus before the wet laps the roll over of rubber was making them noisy. Had more grip than Dave on P Zeros in the wet though which was supprising.

R8 is RWD but can put 20% max to front if need be, they do 2 sets of rears to 1 front... my last rear PZeros lasted 6k ON THE ROAD ONLY !! hehe
