Anyone running a cheap track car?

Clio cup 182 on 82k miles in racing blue.

Myself and the co-owner are into it for about £4K all in, the bulk of that is in the cage, exhaust and seats/harnesses. Car itself was only £1100 and would be great as is. Rest of the money is in suspension and tyres.

It's a cracking car and with incredible grip / traction that surprises a lot of bigger cars.

Plans for this year are 2x trips to Nurburgring, and continuous track days in the uk (last one 12/12/15 next one is next weekend!)
What had been done to the Clio before you bought it? You must have spent more than £4k on it surely? The cage looks like a decent multi point weld in job. That must be c.£3k. Does it meet any competition regs? I am liking that very much. Good work. :beerchug:
Nothing done to it previously. Was stock.

We *were* about £4K into it (part sponsored cage and exhaust from JC Weldfab helped a lot) but we're about £7k in now I'd say, having changed to MC750 race suspension and added 4 pot brakes, RS Tuner remap etc etc.

We've built it to just do track days this year then hopefully trackday trophy series next year. Cage is MSA / FIA approved from JCWF. Suspension is good for ktec Clio series / MC750 etc. With a few other bits we'd be compliant (remove aftermarket rear anti roll bar etc).

Was at Bedford again on Saturday and it was staggering as always. Anything more powerful you just let pass on the straights and bully out the way on the corners. Image

Still in love with it.

I run a 225 (now 270) Audi TT as a track car, great fun...

Fully polybushed, coilies, stripped (with more to come), lightweight Rota GTR wheels, safety devices half cage going in at the moment, blue flame 3" zorst, semi slicks (hard compound), minted 1144s, racing fluid, Sparco LFA II seats, TRS Harnesses, spacers, loads more to come...

How do you get on with the 1144's in a heavy(er) car? We've just had (and killed) a set on one full track day in the clio. Only ran them as it's all that was available. Looking forward to getting back on RC6's again.

Fine actually, I was considering the DS3000s but a lot of people on the TT forum use the 1144s for track so I followed their lead - but I am about 250kg down on stock weight so I think that plays a factor - how did you bed them in? I did the usual 10 hard straight line brakes from 90 to 30 and they have been solid. Mind you, she has been tucked up for 4 months now so might need to re-visit them come April when I have my first one of the year (Bedford 4th April)
