You'd need a team of people to sort an event like that.
If disagree with that last bit. They had one guy starting it and Craig floating around
There were then 2 safety crew on the strip and two (sometimes 1) on the speed trap
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the event and apart from the lack of speed record availability, it generally ran pretty smoothly, but professional is was not and it certainly had the feel of 'provide the bare minimum' for what those events could do if their potential was met

I run events for a job, and weirdly enough, one of the other vmax'ers on the day runs events in the same industry, and we'd both commented at the time that it just appeared to be a 'fleece the wealthy' type affair
Yes, it was fun, but with a little bit more to offer it could really reach it's potential
Just my tuppence worth

Agreed mate its a great event but theres always room for improvement in anything!
I think it runs very smoothly as its been going for years now.
The way they collect their results is always slow and cumbersome and results take ages to be published, if ever!

A lot of people are there just for the fun and the atmosphere and the PAX rides.

A good day out overall but yes, you could make it even better

I've registered. £250 I was not expecting though. Maybe I'm just being tight. I'll keep looking at this thread with interest.

Can I just point out there has been no mention of the price yet everyone - if we get enough members it will be an exclusive RS246 day.

Yes true bu the other events have had 70 - 100 cars and cost around 250 notes.

Right, I've had a chat with Bruntingthorpe events team today about the possibility of renting the facility - They have no objections and basically rent out to anyone that's prepared to pay their price list for it.
How it works is that the facility has two 'testing tracks' which are basically race circuits. The 2mile straight is split in two and makes the back straight on both circuits, so if you wanted to rent the place for the day for 2mile high speed runs, you'd have to hire both circuits.
The cost for renting both circuits on the 'price list' is £7500 from 9am to 6pm

On top of this, you'd need to hire through them a fire/accident safety crew and a number of track marshals @ approx £600 (safety crew only is less, but you'd want more crew for your own safety)
You'd also want Public Liability insurance @ around £500 (guestimate) and to rent the timing gear (speed trap + a number of crew supported Vboxes) @ ariund £1000 - Having a number of crewed Vboxes means you can measure not only your top speed, but also 0-60, 0-100, corner exit speed etc etc
For the running around with numbers and for general eyes/radio, you'd need a small crew @ say another £500.
Having a large screen Display (effectively an 8ft TV) would cost around £300 for the day, plus a little transport, so say £400, but would mean if displayed at the start finish, you could all see very quickly what the Vbox recorded in big numbers

So to total up
Brunters - £7500
Insurance - £500
Measurement Eq £1000
Safety crew/track marshals £600
Event crew / runners / radio comms £500
Display / admin / faffing £500
Total cost - £10,600

If we could get 50 from 246, then this would mean a total cost each of £212, but should we be able to get a number of other Audi sites / enthusiast groups together and a few 'friends of friends' with other stuff, and we could get say 100 attending, then that makes the cost much more reasonable at £100 and bit each
These, of course, are educated estimates and we may well be able to nego a little with Bruntingthorpe (although i got the impression it'd not be by much) - although there is a half day option

it's worth noting that the dates we loosely looked at in April/May 14 are all fully booked at weekends, so this would need to be a midweek thing

If people think this could be a go-er, I'm happy to organise - Maybe we can discuss on Sunday

Looks like we'd have to include that motley lot over on SRS, again.
Maybe it'd be more fun to join with a BMW forum for a collective top speed face off? Throw in some Mercs driver just to make sure we represent the older generation too...

Questions; once the facility is hired, would we get to charge for visitors etc? What of the tracks, can we lap these?
Is a simple half the costs for a half day?

You have to go around most of the remainder of the circuits on the way back from the end of the 2mile strip back to the start/finish - it's either a nice cool down run or a good thrash back

Could call it vmax155 ;)

It'd be nice to see a few 'different' cars there. Don't get me wrong I love fast Audis, but if they are all kinda similar then inviting some other clubs will mix things up a bit. I'm sure I know a few people who'd want to come along but they have all sorts of cars.

Edit: If MRC take a WB saloon or R8 turbo that WOULD BE TOTALLY AWESOME!

I would be up for this if we ran it on a cost only basis.

Sorry forgot to say top work Graeme :beerchug:
