I prefer to fill up in the UK as I can use my company card so is 100% cheaper for me

I stated that the first Shell garage is 70 miles from the ferry but only sells super + 98 V-max 100 is only in Germany

Understand but any super in France is genuine 98 octane so very good fuel. For me it doesn't have to be Optimax but if we're all going over with a full tank then I'll fuel up UK side so I'm not leaving the French station with the rest of you nutters about 60kms away although for a tight northerner like me filling up in the UK is like throwing good money away (this doesn't apply to you KC)

Hopefully no such problems for me, the one tank should get me there and half way back - including the track day !

Yeah but you'll be looking at my all the way

I'll have killed a tank before I've even left the UK

My BP route finder tells me we have a choice of two routes.....
The 'fast' route is 307 miles (from Calais) and takes 5hr & 7 minutes - via the Paris periphique.... or we have the 'slow' route which is 258 miles and takes 5 hrs & 58 minutes....

In keeping with the diesel tradition I'm going for the slow route, sod the Paris peripherique.......

OK, abit of clarity needed here, I know in France using your radar detector is a no no no....
But how do you stand if the display unit is disconnected and in the boot but leaves the GPS receiver exposed.....

Can you still be nicked or is it best to remove all signs of the installation ?

Not that I will be exceeding the French speed limit, moi - non.

Well I will be removing all visible signs of my gear, and storing it in my luggage. Think thats the best we can do really, especially if you have a longish drive to even get to Dover and dont want to be without it for th UK legs of the journey. IIRC the French police will still f**k you over with a large baton even if they find it at all however.

Now there's a thing. I had to self sensor the word "f**k" on version 2. Is this a bug, or are we allowed to swear now?

If we're "pressing-on" in France I'd still prefer to be protected with my radar detector. I have used this before (geodesy with radar horn) in France and it has saved me on previous occasions so I'll take my chances with it. If we get knicked at the sort of speeds our cars are capable of then they'll probably lock us up and throw away the keys anyway!

I'm not planning on driving like a lunatic either
