It would seem you make good money on these events so therefore should have all the latest equipment to give your customers the ultimate day

What's making me chuckle is although a great idea to self host such an event, the basis for such an event has within 3 pages turned into exactly what VMAX is & has been for years already offering. If you have 100+ vehicles running to keep the costs down to say £120-150 each then that's too many cars. Also many attending will not have experienced such an event so the chances of carnage are extremely high as stopping a road car from 180mph within a fairly short distance requires a reasonably high quality of components & driver awareness.

The original idea was Audi only, but you've realised that's a tad boring so want to open it up to other marques which again is the current VMAX format. VMAX is not only about the runs, but also about the banter & friendship. At the last event i attended, my then 16yr old lad got a PAX run in a Noble M600 & experienced the runway at 204mph, something sadly i've still not managed.

I accept that VMAX is probably not for everyone, but having attended many over the years you'd struggle to find a better & more exciting way for a petrol head to spend a couple of hundred quid. Where else in the UK would you get to find & reach the upper speed limits of your own vehicle? Also consider that not only do you get the close to 2 mile straight, you get the launchpad (love that bit) where you can launch you car under safe conditions which is hardly advisable out of the M6 Toll Booths. This in itself & the viewing of is quite something.

Horses for courses though as you can't please all of the people all of the time. I've had 2 years away from VMAX as a 3.0TDi A8 Exec isn't really the correct vehicle for such an event, however i'll be taking my new M5 for a blat when the next event is announced:)

I agree in part that Vmax isn't just about your own car, but also the experience of the day
However, if you've not been for a couple of years, then you might not have realised that Vmax has grown into something much bigger than what you might've been to before

Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed Vmax black earlier this year, but it wasn't amazing and the size of the event now (there was possibly 100 cars) has made it slightly more segregated and impersonal than you might be remembering

The level of driving was ok, but still with that many people, you get a wide range of abilities and there were a couple of times where a faster car would go off at the same time as me, get a good lead had then cut in front of me on the launch pad side covering my car in stones from the crappy surface or the time the guy launched a 996 turbo in reverse and luckily there was no one queued up behind him :dung:

For £250, and this is more directed at Craig as a suggestion more than a criticism, can't you get some 0-60 0-100, standing qtr, corner exit & top speeds up on a big screen for all to see (some live supported vboxes could do this). I had a good day, but I did feel a little fleeced given how much it costs to run against the numbers of attendees you had. The events have a great following, but an awesome potential
I'd happily go along to a £250 vmax quatro organised by the Vmax guys if I thought it'd live up to its potential and back to more vmax's in general

I'm doing so by having much larger vinyl numbers made for next year to make it easier. Also since the early Vmax's where we were seeing lots of 150-170 speeds, now with many of the cars going over 180 its much much harder, hence I've been working on a solution, albeit a low tech one.

I did ask everyone (passengers) that day to watch the timing boards as these display your speed accurately, then to report them back.

I actually went to the beams for some time to help and it was incredibly hard to differentiate.

so with the large vinyl numbers and the app displaying the leaderboard these issues shouldnt happen again but I do apologise for this.

We always pride ourselves on giving everyone a great and safe day with virtually unlimited runs but we're still learning and looking for ways to make Vmax better.

There will be some differences and enhancements next year and I hope to make it very special for you all.

You make a valid point, however;

You can pay someone to wash your car or you can do it yourself, both approaches can have wildly differing results based on standards, expertise, bla bla bla. I know which approach is more rewarding and I'd never try to discourage someone thinking about 'giving it a go' themselves. Much like exploring the possibilities of doing your own VMAX. No two events are the same, especially when different people are organising them. Just sayin'...
No matter where you go, there you are.

Hi Gents,

Apologies have been offline for a few hours. Just caught up.

I take all criticism or support onboard and try to learn from it as I always have. Thanks for the messages that have been sent btw.

Vmax has grown massively over the years and I'm never afraid to say that occasionally we get elements wrong but from the feedback I get, usually right I'm glad to say. That day was almost cancelled due to a serious family issue but I chose rightly or wrongly to run it anyway.

In terms of having the latest equipment, as well as the ways I have mentioned to identify cars better and record speeds, I am looking at investing in gps tagging to record speeds better although this is expensive.

The costs for running such a day (properly) have increased dramatically over the past few years and are huge so I have to be careful where I invest for Vmax in terms of the tech.

In terms of the numbers, I'm sorry but I have to be very clear, we had nowhere near 100 cars participating (and never have had), more like half that, I purposely keep the numbers lower than we can handle to ensure drivers get maximum time on track at all times. I have never in over 20 Vmax's had a single person come back to me and say they didn't have enough runs or time on circuit. The die hards are doing lap after lap at the end.

You make a good point ref some variety and as I hinted at above, we will be mixing it up slightly into 2014 including 0-100, 50-150, speed around the bottom bend, some sprints, as people require, as I've said, I do want to please and will endeavour to do so. We do have VBoxes available and offer them out btw.

In terms of vehicle safety and driver skill we are constantly monitoring and communicating throughout the day and anyone we see misbehaving is spoken to. We are also advising the cars doing the higher speeds to check cars after every run, to run alone and to all wear helmets. We are also looking at ways to make things even safer for everyone at Vmax200.

Lastly, screens displaying speeds and footage from track were mentioned, this is also part of the plan.

As has been said, you can't please everyone although we do try and I've had maybe 2 complaints from the thousandds of people who have attended. I take these on board and try to make sure everyone feels happy in the end.

I trust and hope this addresses everything but if the 2 chaps who felt short changed above drop me an email I will attempt to rectify for them.

I would welcome you all to Vmax in 2014 as an ex RS owner and still a big fan myself.

Thanks for reading gents,

Craig

Craig
Those are the only things I felt were missing and not impossible to fix. If you get that sorted, then I think Vmax can be even greater and live up to its potential for bigger and better things

Oh yeah, and well I'm being picky, some decent coffee / well stocked burger van would make it my dream day

As I said before, I thoroughly enjoyed the day and I used an entire tank of fuel doing runs, but just those little things like you're addressing above would make it perfect and no doubt I'll be back

You can never please everyone in the events business, but sometimes that extra 5% from the organiser (ie 0-100 etc times/big screen) make 50% difference to the paying entrant

I can't argue this point as like you say I've not been for 2yrs, however i still recognise most of the current attendees so feel it's pretty much as good as it was when I last attended:)

Nothing can ever be perfect, but my £200 ish would always go to an event that's well run with all the correct safety & support & for that reason I'd be wary of any newcomer offering a VMAX style event over an accomplished business who'd been running them for 10 years.

I of course agree that mixing it up a little with new Tech for drag races & other performance parameters is a great idea & from the above it looks as though Craig agrees:)

Am looking forward to launching my new M5 down Brunters concrete ASAP:)

Woah, stand back everyone, we're got a professional Googler here!

It's a testament to the type of people posting in this thread, another day on another forum and it would've turned into a shitefight.

To be honest, I didn't know who R Meaden was, so needed the powers of google
Found a video of him bailing out of a lotus on fire, so not sure that installed the confidence to trust him with my kids at 200mph though
