Hi Guys

Been keeping tabs on this board a while but this is my first post i think.

Having had a B7 RS which i never fell in love with I am now in to a B5 which was always my dream car, better looking, classic audi turbo,rarer and so should depreciate less from here in etc etc ............... and i have just taken delivery of a 50000mile example.

However 2 driver issues........1 when you spank her through the gears, more often than not, the traction control cuts in arround 3000-4000 revs, only in second gear, and shuts down the power down for far too long....................also squeeking and shuddering brakes.

I think the previous owner had'nt driver the car more than 1000 miles in the past year, and the rear discs were very rusty.

Is this the way these B5s behave with regards to the traction control.....never had an issue with a B7

traction control cuts the ignition on these cars.

That's why I turn it off......

Congrats on the new addition! Two recommendations:

Make sure that you have the blinking traction control light coming on, otherwise there is something else that causes the power to fall off. I would not recommend shutting off the traction control on public roads before you have a better feel for the car. I have driven a B7 RS4 before and I saw traction control coming in much more gentler than in the B5 at the limit.

With respect to the brakes, I would recommend bedding them in. You should be able to clear the rust around the outer portion of the rear disk and the shudder should go away. Provided they are OEM pads, you should have no squeeking. The rust will re-appear during extended city riving.

Mine has just started doing this, but in 3rd gear under heavy acceleration. Its the traction control cutting the ignition. Caused by a failure in one of the four Lambda sensors. Switching off ESP stops this which is a temporary fix. I had a full road test with the laptop plugged in to identify the fault.

I never drive with traction control on. Turn it off the minute yoo fire up the beast....

Check your tyres , If they are not a matched set you could get some wheel spin .. That would bring on the TC light.

I had a tuned B5 S4 and this was what I found. Difference in rolling circumference between f + r axles in my case.]

Try it when it's wet and you run toyo 888's ... I leave it on ..
