Any original owners left

Post by ianw » Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:37 pm

Not that I am proud of the mileage or Kilometers, but my misano red audi will have its first cambelt major service next week. I have had it from new and its done 41000 Kms (i am in switzerland). I used it a lot the first couple of years and then a new large family meant it got little use as the defender 110 was the only car we all fitted in. I resisted my wifes urges to sell it to fund a new kitchen etc. :D

Anyway its a very long time since I posted here and just wondered if any one else still has thiers from new.

Cambelt changes are every 40K miles or 4 years - whichever comes first. You must be up to 9 or 10 years now ?! You've done well - cambelts deteriorate with age / oil contamination.

**Make sure the service includes changing the thermostat** - Audi in the UK do not bother; if the thermostat fails open, it's basically another cambelt service due to the location of the thermostat....sods law the thermostat goes a few weeks after the cambelt service if it's not changed....

The dealer here said there was no time limit mention for the RS4 but 4 years or the rs6, I am well aware the cambelt change is long overdue, I had one go on an escort many years ago when I was a student which bent most valves, my RS4 was in the second batch that was allocated to switzerland and I got it in 2001. Looking forward to giving a blast this month as I am off to Italy and then next month some autobahn fun in Germany. I just hope I get reacclimatised to fast driving after tootling along in the defender.

And thanks I am beginning to think that there can not be many original owners left.

There is a guy local to me that still owns his 2001 Avus RS4 with only 23,000 miles from new.
He said it was his toy and spent most of its life in his garage..... Tried to twist his arm to sell it when I was looking for mine but he was for none of it. Good luck to him!!
Just can't get the smile off my face......
