Valuation

Post by Simon993 » Fri Mar 12, 2010 7:57 pm

I've had the Avus B5 for about 3 years now and have certainly had 40k miles of fun! It's approaching 90,000 miles and it’s had a full Audi + specialist service history:

• 16 Jan 02: 9,121 miles, Charles Audi, Crewe
• 14 Mar 02: 13,700 miles, Robinsons Audi , Norwich
• 9 Jul 02: 18,542 miles, Robinsons Audi, Norwich
• 1 Jul 03: 27,424 miles, Newton Abbot Audi
• 14 May 04: 37,264 miles, Newton Abbot Audi
• 1 Aug 05: 43, 570 miles, Newton Abbot Audi
• 22 Aug 06: 50,405, Newton Abbot Audi
• 8 Aug 07: 54,665, JS Motors Audi Specialist
• 14 Mar 08: 64,499 miles, JS Motors Audi Specialist
• 15 Nov 08: 73,862 miles, JS Motors Audi Specialist
• 22 Jul 09: 84,388 miles, MDM Technik Audi Specialist.
• 21 Jul 10 or 94,387 miles next service due.

MOT until Nov 10.
Dunlop SP9000 255/35ZR18 tyres fitted Dec 08.
Carbon pack option.
Factory fit glass slide/tilt sunroof.
BOSE with CD Autochanger.
Black Roof rails and graphite window frames.
Minimal wear to full black leather heated/electric Recaro sports seats.
Xenon headlights.
2 sets of keys.

I'm about to change the front discs /pads and do a few minor jobs, just to make sure it’s in top mechanical condition. However, from a cosmetic point of view, if I were keeping the car, I would want to remove a few stone chips, paint the front end and possibly give it a 'detail' /some real TLC. It’s an unmodified excellent example of an outstanding car, but then you all know that anyway.

What are your collective thoughts on a reasonable asking price. I’ve seen costings all over the place from £13,000 up to £16,000+ , but don’t want to give the car away in order to sell it.

I thought this would be sold by a garage for about 14995 - 15500 depending on how the market was. I'm selling the car without any warranty, but even though it's been well looked after, I was thinking about putting it on at £14500+- ono.

Any thoughts, afterall a keen owner would want to spend some money repainting bits & pieces?

this avus example with new turbos @83k sold for just under £13k i believe
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1538343.htm

this black one appears available at 14.5k @ 81k miles
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1517901.htm

this one with 71k has just gone up at £16k
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1553557.htm

so I would estimate with the miles on your car would be 12k to 14k

really depends if you hang on or want to shift it quickly

16K is what i think its worth, but your more likley to get close to 15.
you'd be surprised some potential buyers want unmodified examples.
again all depends if your wanting to wait for the right buyer or shift quickly

Frazer i take it your still look for a car?

Being realistic and not optimistic 12-13k,good lower mileage cars are available with sensible yet expensive "must have" mods are around 14-15k and still for sale, standard cars only appeal to some people, but for me and most people they dont handle/stop/perform at all well standard and would want some of these factors addressed, alot of people on here blow smoke up the b5s a*se but step out of this forum into the real world when you advertise it and soon realize its not some fantastic icon that everyones waiting to buy,I speak from experience,we are in recession and lots of cars on here alone are going up for sale "reluctantly" im afraid getting realistic is the only way to turn one into cash.

As someone who has just sold his B5 RS4 I have to agree with Lengster. The B5 is a great car but you're amongst enthusiasts here on the forum and enthusiasts always think their cars are worth more than they actually are in the cold light of day.

If you want your RS4 to sit on Pistonheads for 6-8 months then ask 16K for it. If you want to sell it, then put it up for £13K. Simple really.

Agree again, but with the caveat that we all know, its worth what some bugger(sorry enthusiast!) will pay for it....that said, have already turned down more than 13k but then i dont 'have' to sell it.

Agreed, cars at 13K are priced to sell all day long and over and over again, ones that are priced at 16-18K are one's that will sit there for much longer but may eventually sell. I still maintain that these cars are holding their value well compared to the B7's.

If you look at what I paid for mine 3+ yrs ago we can do the math.

B5

50K car in 2001 and I paid 26.5K in 2007 = 6yr old car with 38K miles

B7

50K car in 2006 add 6 yrs to that and it's 2012 = now they are not going to be worth that are they now? You can pick up one now for 26.5K so it goes to show how much faster they are depreciating.

Hold on to your B5 for a bit longer yet and let the B7's drop below them, it's a no brainer really.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

I sense that if I'm going to sell, then we're looking at putting it up for low £14's and accept a punt in the mid-high £13's. Notwithstanding that it needs some paint work, would you get that done before asking a premium price or explain that the car is priced accordingly.

A 'good' front end respray would surely cost in the regoion of £600-800 and a parking scrape on the rear could mean a rear bumper respray to get it in top condition, but wear do you stop? I might at well get the side skirts done and take the scuff out of the an alloy.

If I spend the thick end of £2500, in order to get £13k, I might as well keep the car?

Oh, forgot to mention 'webuyanycar.com' offered £9800 and the local BMW garage £7500 ~ only did it as an exercise to see what mad offers are out there.
