Hi Guys- just a quickie for all those with rattly Bose rear speakers! had recurring issues with all my Audi's fitted with Bose, replacements usually c.£100 each.
On Friday I got 2 6522si Infinity reference speakers (165mm diameter, shallow fit) with the 2 Ohm compatability required for the Bose amplifier for £50 (on offer at Halfrauds), fitted for £56- bargain!!
And they sound fantastic- may have to have the fronts done now....
Regards
Steve

Never had any issues with mine at all,but can you really notice the difference from when yours was all working fine,or is it sounding better as your rears were not very good.
I would love to improve on the standard set up as its not very good

Cheers

Yes £56!! Should have been £80- very reasonable anyway I thought and yes, I think there is a discernible improvement in sound quality...
There is a -3dB switch to improve sound resolution when the speakers are mounted low (as opposed to dash mounted) apparently and I asked the guys to enable it.

I think the sound of the Bose is fine, never get any vibration and have it pumping loud all the time. The B5 stereo setup is better than the B7 RNS-E imo.

No issues with the Bose amplification, but when you compare the quality of the speakers with aftermarkets there's no contest.
I appreciate that most owners may not have been as unlucky as I have been- had to replace a rear parcel shelf speaker on a 1.8TQ and a rear door speaker on my first RS4. I posted in case anyone was having as many problems as I did identifying an effective replacement for the standard set-up. I think we'd all agree that the RS4 is properly engineered out of the box but many people have gradually updated and upgraded over the years to keep things fresh.

sounds interesting....

are the front speakers the same as the rears?

If you change the fronts id like to hear it in person, and would consider changing mine if they sound better then the bose.

Hey Steve,

These the ones? : http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165707

Are they an easy fit? (Right size, same mountings etc?). If so I'll go and grab a pair this week for the rears and fit them with a good bit of Dynomatting :)

Does anyone know the size of the fronts (got a hiss from the n/s!) and any good recommendations for replacements?

Cheers!

Does anyone know if these are the same units fitted to the S4 saloon with BOSE ? Are the fronts different to the rears?

Chaps, yes, they're the ones as per Halfrauds online- although they let me down on fitting after waiting two weeks. Asked about the fronts- should be same size but incorporate a tweeter module so probably a different model but same dimensions. Would have had a crack at doing them myself but personal circumstances dictate otherwise....
Fitter did say they had to modify the fitting slightly because the bolt-holes didnt line up, but all I can say is - Ian Banning in Guildford, professional and top blokes, one hour, both rear doors £56.....
Phil, you've got the same problem as me- nobody seemed to know for sure although I will say that the rear parcel shelf speaker I replaced in my 1.8TQ looked to be the same size and thinking logically (I know its Audi), economies of scale from a premium audio manufacturer would suggest that they were....

if I remember rightly...I did a complete new install on my other b5 avant and I think the fronts are slightly smaller in size, I think its 1/4" but dont hold me to it. From what I can see, the speaker grills look the same size on both my tsport and rs. I think bass=junkies have a section where you put in your car model and it gives you the sizes front and rear??

changed all mine with focal carbon which i had in my s4 with a alpine head unit and as im a tight northener when i sold it i put the standard stuff back in to put the focals in the RS, i fiited everything back into the rs speakers amps etc apart from the head unit cos its wasnt doubledin and it sounded worse than the s4 did with it in ! wot im tryin to say is you can have great speakers & amps but if your running it through the standard headunit its not going to sound as good as it could do! in my opinion bose concert has a good sound and to better it you would have to rip it all out!

Agreed! Had a new RNS-E unit retro-fitted by MRC in September and it even made the dodgy standard speakers sound good, if crackly. Speakers took it to another level which is why I'm now considering doing the fronts which are otherwise ok at present...

Took the speakers out of my B5 RS4 tonight to look at them properly before ordering some new ones.

Fronts are 8DO 035 411 C and look to be about 4.5 inches wide and 2 inches deep:

Rears are 8D9 035 412

And instructions for removing the door panels can be found here:

Think I'll get the Infinity's to replace the rears. Not sure what's out there for the fronts....
