Tyres - Its 4 at a time!

Folks

A little known but expensive fact.....as the RS is 4WD you need to change all 4 tyres at once I was told this by Costco - checked the handbook and its bloody correct - the transmission will be damaged due to the slightly different diameters and rotational behaviour - ouch! I followed the advice and did all 4 - I have to say the handling and ride was infinately better though - so there is some mild compensation.....

What tyres did you go for? Same as before or a new flavour?

I've got MPs too. How expensive are they?! Did you get a deal on all 4? Pirelli P Rosso's have a deal on at the mo, 25% off.

What's the typical wear rate front / rear ? Assuming it's not 50/50 it must be worth moving front to rear and vice versa every 5000 miles ? Maybe less depending on wear rate ! At least that way you would not have to throw away a pair of tyres that still had reasonable life left in them..

Feck....previous owner was after putting on a set of these before I bought it.... :(

Have Ultrac Sessantas on my Leon and yes they are a serious tyre, they give me the "Quattro" feeling from a FWD car...

Looks like I'll have to burn off the Pirelli's so if they are that bad.

Cant beleive this! So if I fitted 4 new tyres 6 months ago & I get a blowout, I have to buy 4 more new tyres? ( because the other 3 will be more worn than the one I really need due to the blowout?)
What if I used the spare ( if I had a factory one) which had not been used ever due to the fact that the factory spare is on a different type of wheel, & the other 3 tyres were 3/4 worn?
By fitting it I would wreck the gearbox? NAH!
The whole idea behind having differential gears on a car is to allow the wheels to turn at different speeds, this is to allow the car to go round corners!

IIRC you can have up to 3 mm difference front and rear.

I buy 4 at a time and rotate them front to back as it says in the manual

My wife blew a tyre out on my S4 years back and I bought 4 new ones even though the original good tyres still had approx 4mm of tread on them
