Gents, my car is due an mot soon and I know my wash-wipe does not work on my front headlights. Tried topping up the bottle but still no joy. Is this an automatic mot fail with xenons?

It's a grey area as while headlamp wash always has to come with xenons when the car is manufactured, testing it isn't part of the MOT test.
You can fit an HID (xenon) upgrade to a normal headlamp without washers and this wont fail the MOT either as long as the beam pattern is correct (which it often isn't!).
Maybe one day VOSA will decide to incorporate it in the test but at the mo the number of cars with xenons is so small it isn't worth the admin hassle.
My MOT's due soon too :)

I get the " FREE " mot test so I bet you a beer they would pick it up, just to give it a fail THEN charge a min of an hour to get back the MOT test fee.
Dealers on this scheeme aint that daft, got me last year for the passenger beam " being a tadge out".... bollocks was it but 30 mins later " all is well"

bet you they didnt even touch it

hmmm, do query it if they do as I am 99% sure there is nothing in the MOT rules yet and repair will take longer than 30 mins as it's bumper off.

Mine flew through the MOT with failed washer jets. They even adjusted the headlight beam for free !

It was the Nationwide autocentre in Shoreham-by-sea (was going to Audi but was v.urgent)

I hope they used VAG COM to adjust the beam!
TBH my MOT station have done that before on xenon cars and they have been OK but for my car I am going with my laptop :D
