Speed related whine at 120 mph

Post by Spunbigendbearing » Wed Dec 24, 2008 3:34 pm

I'm having a quite noticable sort of a whine that starts at about 120 mph and stays there only till about 123 mph;after that it's gone.

It doesn't do it cruising at that speed, but only at gentle or hard acceleration and everything in between;at 5th or 6th gear, doesn't make a difference.
The noise is somewhere coming from the front;first time i heard it,i was afraid it was turbo-related ,but tested again today and it seems definitly speed related, but only under load at different kind of acceleration in 6th as well as 5th gear and not under load of deceleration(letting go of the throttle, not braking)

I noticed the sound only recently, because i don't do that sort of speed that often

Gearbox/diff related,anyone?

Wheel Bearing? Had one of mine go and it was worse at speed. And turning right.

Either that or just make sure you do less than 120 or more than 125 ;-)

Stu.
