Hmmm! Would you take this bet???

Post by Norrs2 » Wed Nov 12, 2008 3:41 pm

Been having a bit of banter with a guy at work who has a new M3 Saloon, he bet me at lunch time, (now his car is run-in) £500 that he would paste my RS4 (Stage2 Spec) and he knows mine has been re-mapped!!!

I don't really want to take a bet that would probably involve daft speed on the public roads (even though they are mostly motorway round here where I work!) But he seems so confident and I really feel like showing him that his car is no quicker (is it????) cause he a bit of a *ick!!!

Im thinking to just leave it and let im rant on - but he's starting to annoy me!!! I am very RS4 proud!! But getting a bit too old for this!

He has less transmission loss and NA engine response.

Suggest 6th gear 50-100 - you should wipe the floor then!

It would be very close, had a 2 door M3 play a bit back only came by when I slowed for a bike and traffic island, when we got around the island on the straight I was catching him in 3rd and 4th but let him go as he drove like a plonker showing off to his mate.

Had a run in with a nem M3 coming off a roundabout on the A303 a month or so back- he was driving in the accepted BMW manner- ie in my boot, came down the gears into roundabout with him on my tail, started to put the power down in 3rd as I came off the far side and then nailed it as I straightened up and completely blew him off before throttling back about 3/4 mile up the road, whereby he came past like a nutter before pulling in front and gradually slowing up as if to say 'see I can catch you' but I think he was seriosly rattled- and if I'd had more than 10 litres of fuel left at this point I'd just have kept it nailed and left him- see my spec below- and he'll be restricted to 155 whereas ours aren't!- as Nige says if you're rolling you should have a traction advantage, specially if its damp- you'll just have to pick your place/time/challenge! If he's that cocky and his M3 is obviously newer he should give you the option of calling the shots!!

so 500 quid is worth risking your licence is it mate?

The amount of unmarked rozzer cars up there I wouldnt risk it Norman...
keep it under your hat and let him THINK he has 1 up on you..... just stop to offer him a pull out of the hedge when he dumps it in a field.

Knockhill could be an idea but I suspect the M3 may have the handling edge over the older RS4.As for sheer grunt in damp or wet conditions my quid is on you but if its dry then he MAY just get the edge as you transmit all that power without wheelspin will bog you down a tadge and 500 quid is some tadge.

Also if you did lose then you would never hear the end of it

I'd give him a go in any weather on any (private) road. I've had blasts with FQ400's which are quick so the new M3 saloon doesn't worry me really. As far as ground covering goes a remapped B5 is the nuts.

I've done a new M3 from the M6 Toll booths. He even waited for me to get there and for the barrier to rise!
