Servicing etc

Post by jmn » Wed Jul 30, 2008 10:22 pm

Thinking of buying one of these but worried about servicing/maintaining car.
I live near Exeter-would not really trust local Audi franchise.
What would be the nearest specialist? I don't mind travelling up to 150 miles or so.
Also does anyone know either of 2 cars on the Pistonheads website-one in Derbyshire the other in South Lanarkshire? (Sorry no reg numbers visible).
If I looked at either of these can anyone recommend someone for pre purchase inspection? :?:

Can't go wrong with MRC Tuning for servicing etc, there in Banbury, just of M40 and
Grizz at unit 20 on the Wirral and he's a top guy,

But as i have no idea where u live i don't know how far u are from either of them!

Tread carefully and if in doubt, walk away. There are some really nice RS4's out there, but in my opinion, MRC are the best independant for the RS4. There are many other good indey's out there, but MRC know the 2.7t engine inside out.

I may be selling mine. Very good condition, and very well maintained.

I would also reccommend MRC, even though they are just a little over 150 miles from you, its well worth making the trip.

As i also live near Exeter i share your opinion of the local stealer, just this week they quoted me £2k for a new clutch and claimed the job takes 14 hours. MRC did the job in a normal working day and for less than half their price.

I know a guy locally who would probably accompany you to inspect an rs4 prior to purchase. If you want to get in touch, i will give you any help i can.

Mike.

I would wait for a member on the forum to sell . You know it's been well looked ofter .
Thanks for the recommendation "Big Andy" . We do look after many s4 /rs4's , But i would say MRC will be better for you as they are only 150 miles from you.

All the best with the search

Whats you budget for one of these? Like Mikey said there are a few out there and you do get what you pay for IMO. Warranty would be a good call as with supercars certain parts can be expensive to replace.

This is a nice one! :D

Thanks for the replies. A car has been advertised quite close to where I live-2000x with 78k miles at £18k-Audi demo and 1 owner-FASH with docs-almost all factory options fitted. Cams replaced at 60k for some reason-car has had 2 cambelt and tensioner changes, first at 39k with last replacement done about 2k ago.
DevonMike please let me know if your guy would be able to look at the car with me. Car is about 25 mins from Exeter.

Originals camshafts probably wore out - probably due to the car being subject to the variable servicing regime. Eventually the oil breaks down to the point that the camshafts (and probably plenty of other parts) wear prematurely.

His name is Steve, and contact number is 07941648076.

2 cambelt changes are fine, and maybe a sign of well maintained. Should be every 40k, so it's spot on

Hi jmn, can't recommend MRC highly enough after 3 recent trips to them for various ahem 'remedial' work- I live in Exmouth and would have travelled further if I'd had to!! A major plus from my perspective is that if you talk to Doug or Lucas and tell them where you're coming from and bust a gut to get up there for 8.30/9.00 you will get their undivided attention all day on YOUR car, pick up tips etc. I probably got on Dougs tits a bit but he obviously took it well and what he doesn't know about the 2.7 V6 bi-turbo (and other stuff- effective big brake conversion for example) probably isn't worth knowing- (he runs 2 of them for goodness sake), complete with very effective home made kit like the pressure leak equipment! I am not planning on taking my car anywhere else in future....... Sorry Doug if you're tuning in!
