I think the majority will be out of warranty and modified, depends on what you want from it. Mine has custom remap, miltek and B7 brakes.

They are pretty reliable so I wouldn't worry too much but you do need a good long test drive and ideally a checkover by a specialist.
Minimum would be a VAG COM check as replacing a load of iffy sensors could cost a lot and may already have done damage.
Best thing to do is buy from a member of this forum - there are couple for sale at the mo from Brooner and S4INT via dealers, here is a current thread with more info

Bought my Beuty totally standard 8 weeks ago, 02 plate misano red 64k fash, changed anti roll bars for H+R, just purchased B7 RS4 front and rear brakes not fitted as yet, dissapointed in original brakes hence B7 ones, can always change back to old anti roll bars, wouldn though not while i own it, as of yet undecided to go any further as i respect the car as it is, No Warranty taking it on the chin.

There are plenty of things which can go wrong which the DIS will not show. The ECU can be oblivious to some of them, ie: failed DV's, slight boost leak, etc.

Sorry, didn't read that bit.

For your peace of mind I would recommend a health check at a specialist such as QST in Haywards Heath or APS in Brackley or MRC in Banbury. It's best to fix stuff sooner rather than later on cars like these - mine drove well but needed a MAF and a lambda sensor before VAG COM couldn't find faults.

As blue_thunder says, you can't trust the DIS. The problem with car diagnostics is that many items can go wrong but they can still work within the parameters set within the ECU so the ECU wont realise it's a fault e.g. MAF could be reading air flow for 40mph but you could be doing 80mph.

there is someone over in Ireland, I'll find out for you.... hang in there.
Many S2 owners have got his remap so I am sure he could be of assistance to you.
