Rear Brake Callipers
Rear Brake Callipers
I am going to do a brake service this weekend on my car, and I allready know that the rear callipers are a bit tight, (hopfully not seized).
Does anyone have an opinion on trying to service the callipers to free them up, or is it best poilicy to just buy a new callipers?
Not sure if servicing the calliper with release oils will potentially damage the piston seals etc.

Are you planning on changing the brake fluid as well? If so is this an easy process or do you need a speacil tool for it?
Thanks in advance.

You can buy seal kits for them which will allow you to strip and clean them. What usually happens is the outer boot perishes and allows moisture in causing corrosion behind the seals. You can strip them down and clean up the bores of the calipers and reassemble with new seals. If the pistons are corroded and the chrome is coming of it is time for new calipers.

A seal kit for one caliper only is about £12 from the dealers.......... quite alot for a couple of bits of rubber.

No i dont think that the system is pressurised, or at least it did not appear to be when i last bled my 6 pot brembo calipers on the front.
I'm presuming that if it is, taking the lid off the fluid reservoir would release the pressure.

I would be grateful if someone post the RS4 B5 standard rear caliper assembly part numbers please.
