cambelt question
cambelt question
with a bit of luck im about to buy my first rs4 on a private sale, but after phoning up audi regarding the car to find out its service history(which is with audi from new)i found out that the cambelt was only done at 65k miles and from there knowledge not been done previous to this, now should i be concerned by this?would this have any long term damage or has the former owners just been fortunate that there has not been any major failure as audi recomend it be done at 40k.also i would of thought audi would of told the owner at the time that the cambelt was due, should i not be worried?,or should i steer clear? thanks jay
RE: cambelt question
I bought mine 4 years ago privatley and it had missed the cambelt change (albeit by only 4000 miles) but the car had a full dealership service history and the dealership even took it through a warranty check (so I could get a warranty). I think for some reason dealerships think these cars are on a 80k cambelt interval!
I think the owner has been lucky and providing all the other bits were changed at the same time then I wouldn't have thought you'd have any problems. There are other threads detailing what ought to be changed alongside the cambelt.
If everything else stacks up with the car then all should be OK.

I would be worried on what the dealer changed when the belt was done.
As a precaution, the water pump should be changed, as all the associated parts

Yep if I did mine again I would include the aux belt tensioner
Although I did all of the above on mine, incl. water pump and thermostat

I'm thinking of getting mine done at some point soon, I make the total parts costs £837, how much labour is put on top of this?

That price "just" for part is way out.....something definitely wrong there!
