All RS4s are 2001 or 2002 model year.
The chassis numbers will all follow this format;
WUAZZZ8DZ*NXXXXXX
Where the * is will be the model year (1 or 2) and the Xs form the unique build number of that car during that model year.
Incidentally model years go from March Apri or May (it has changed) of the previous year so a 2002 model year car could have been built in May 2001 and registered not long after.
There were just 400 RHD for the UK but the worldwide build was approx 4000 (from what I recall) using same chassis number format.

Mine is a late 2001 car - first registered in the UK in October 2001 -
Chassis number follows the same as above...
WUAZZZ8DZ1NXXXXXX
Apart from the UK RHD cars, does anyone know what other countries has RHD - Japan, NZ, Oz etc? - Are there any figures to know exactly how many RHD cars were ever manufactured?

from the sticky, there were apparently a shade over 6000 built worldwide.

Surely there weren't 6000 RHD examples built worldwide - or did I not phrase my question very well?

How do you find out when it was built from chassis number; obviously I know when mine was registered but...
Also, how can you tell which of the 400 UK cars you have from the chassis number too?

A total of 6,000 built worlwide is correct, however only 400 were RHD. The remainder were left hookers.

Do we have the actual figures for RHD - were some not destined for other RHD markets like Hong Kong, Australia etc.. ?
There are quite a few 'grey imports' RHD cars out there as well... be interested to see the actual production figures for RHD cars from Quattro.
