Need some advice please.

Post by nickelvery » Wed Aug 22, 2007 9:13 pm

Hi everyone, I have been speaking to the RS owners who came to the meet on Sunday and have decided to sell my S3 and join the league of RS owners. Which got me thinking which one I would go for, I can't afford a new RS4 so the obvious choice is either the B5 RS4 or the C5 RS6. I do like the looks of the RS4 over the RS6 but I also like the idea of V8 in the RS6. Why did you guys choose the RS4 over the RS6? Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks in advance.

For me the choice was easy,...needed to change gears with a manual gearbox, but everyone has different views.
My advice is to go and visit a dealer and take a drive in each car....see which you prefer. Both are superb.

I stepped up from an S3 to an RS4 and there was only one choice for me as the 6 is to big and auto ,test drive both to see what suits YOU best.

Don't like auto and personally I think the RS4 is better looking. That V8 does sound good though.

I got the RS4 because I liked it more than the 6 but didn't matter as I couldn't afford the 6

The sound of the V8 is great but I now have the S4 aswell

I had an S4 before and the RS4 was the logical next step. A few months ago I wanted to change again but decided not to I tested an RS6 but preferred the look and feel of the RS4. The 6 had plenty of "go" in it, but it felt a bit like a barge compared with the 4 which I think is a more nimble car. I also prefer a manual gearbox to auto/flappy paddles. The 6 wouldn't fit in my garage, it is also heavier on fuel and road tax is more expensive too (my 4 is a Dec 2000 model so has no recognised CO2 emissions for raod tax classification).

My other half liked the 6 but, again, prefers the 4.

The sound of the V8 is tempting, but other than that, the size, and the fact that it's automade it an easy decision to go for the 4 for me. And the V6 with a miltek fitted still sounds beautiful. I dare say when I have a familly, the size of the 6 will make sense and the switch may be made (maybe with a nice exige for the weekend then ;) )

I drove a 500bhp 6 and my 4 "back to back". Still puts a smile on my face every time I turn the key.........Go for the 4

Thanks guys, very useful, I think you are right, I should be driving an RS6 soon and then I'll go for a drive in the 4.

I like my S3 due to the chuckability and therefore might the 4 more and I do prefere the looks of the 4.

Thanks for all the advice.

I HAVE THE B5 RS4 AND MY FARTHER HAS A GANGSTER SPEC RS6 " BLACK WITH BLACK REAR TINTS I DRIVE BOTHE ON A DAYLY BASIS AS WE WORK TOGETHER SO I CAN CHOOSE WICH ONE I WANT TO TAKE OUT FOR WORK DUTYS ..3 OR 4 RUNS A DAY :biggrin3: I AGREE WITH THE POSTS ABOVE ! MY RS4 LOOKS AWSOM SUPER LOW AND SUPER FAT.. AND WHEN YOU REALLY WANT TO FEEL MORE CONECTED TO THE CAR I TAKE MY RS 4 EVERY TIME .. BUT FOR POOTLING ROUND TOWN IN TRAFFIC I TEND TO TAKE THE RS6 SOUNDS AWSOME THE V8 AND THE AUTO TIP BOX IS GREAT IN TRAFFIC .. BOUTHE DO THE SAME THING " IE SUPER SPEED BUT THE RS6 IS MUCH EASYER TO REACH SILLY SPEEDS AS THE MAX TORQUE IS REACHED MUCH SOONER IN THE REV RANGE !! HEHEHE ..IT DOSE NEARLY 70 B4 I GET OUT OF THE CAR PARK !!! IN MY RS4 YOU CAN FEEL THE SPEED YOUR DOING.. WHERE AS IN THE RS6 SILLY SPEEDS CAN FEEL LIKE A WALK IN THE PARK ..I DID 160 MPH IN THE RS6 THE OTHER DAY AND IT FELT LIKE I WAS DOING ABOUT 100 MPH VERY STABLE ! I COULD HAVE DRIVEN THE 6 WITH 1 FINGER ON THE WHEEL AT 160 AND FELT SAFE ! ITS HORSES FOR COURSES THEY ARE BOTHE VERY DIFFERENT IN THE WAY THEY DRIVE ! BUT FOR ME A WELL SORTED RS4 JUST PIPS IT FOR ME . ALTHOUGH I HAVE GRATE RESPECT FOR THE RS6 ITS POWER PLANT IS JUST AWSOME !

the RS6 is way beyond our league so we have the B5 RS4... what a car:) but as already mentioned the RS6 is a big bugger to lug around 90% of the time. I am sure the RS6 is a fearsome car to drive in spirit but its little brother is a huge amount of fun for us and had plenty in reserve when needed which isnt to often. Also because it has a munual 'box compared to the manual RS4 but at the end of the day its what YOU want from a car.

WE had an S3 for 2 years before the RS and that was a great car as well... but the B5 RS4 just LOOKS the dogs danglies compared to other high performance Audis. IMHO.

Just a quick update, I drove an RS4 yesterday and loved it, very smooth power delivery, great car. So I think I have made my mind up. An RS4 it will be. I now have to find one with less then 40000 miles on the clock and decide what colour to go for.

Thanks for all your help.

you may have a big wait then unless you know of 1 already?

Have you tried Fontain, see what they have floating around?
