Engine Management Light

I have recently purchased an RS4 from a local dealer known for his quality secondhand prestige motors. Since taking ownership of the car a fortnight ago it has been in my possession for 3 days and spent the rest of the time back at the dealers.

The problem i am having is that the engine management light is coming on. The local dealer has replaced all 4 lambda probes, an air mass meter and an additional sensor but still the light returns.

I will pick the car up from the dealer and the engine management light will be off. I then drive it home which is about 5 mile and the light is back on again. I have had the fault codes cleared 3 times and three times the engine management light has reappeared. I firstly questioned the dealer with regards to using cheap after market parts but he produced a fist full of Audi receipts for over a thousand pound.

Has anybody suffered from this same reoccuring problem because i am getting concerned that i have bought a bit of a headache car. :?:

Welcome to the site.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to advise on this.

I have moved the post to the B5 RS4 forum.

When you say the engine management light do you mean the yellow EPC light?

If you do. I had a very similar issue with my previous S4. I take it your power is also be reduced? Again, if yes. The exhaust gas temp (EGT) probes in both my previous S4 and RS4 were responsible for some odd running. In the case of the S4 no fault was recorded. So it was a real pain for the dealer to diagnose. They replaced one of the EGTs but not the other. 14+ visits and 6months later I eventually drove 10hrs and took it to AMD who sourced the intermittent problem while it was being remapped. AMD only discovered the problem while monitoring the output from the EGTs during the remap.

You can monitor the output from both EGTs via VAGCOM as a start.

The fault codes are as follows

17535(P1127)bank 1 long term fuel trim (mul.) system too rich
17537 bank 2 long term fuel trim (mul.) system too rich
17546 bank 2 long term fuel trim (add) system too lean
17539 (P1131 bank 2 sens 1 resistance too high

If anyone can throw any light on what this lot means i would be most grateful

Mine has been known to throw the engine management light up from time to time, usually when the battery is low or flat as it spends most of its time in the garage.

I replaced the battery today and have completed around 50 miles without the engine management light coming on. A big thankyou goes out to Simple1 for the suggestion and hopefully the light stays off.

Light...
