Zero progress so far...

Took pic of the pothole yesterday. Straws; clutching at...

Trying to keep it pleasant before I go mental with them...

Diesel,
Take a pic of the pothole with as tape measure across the hole to give some sense of scale.
Then contact your local council about this. I have recently done this as I hit a sodding great pothole putting a ginormous flat in one of my wheels. Audi dealers said it was too buckled for them to replace under warranty. The council took details of hole location etc and sent me details on how to make a claim. I'm still in the progress of doing this. They will request two independent quotes for damage repair. I got a printout of the wheel price from the dealer and have the receipt for the tyre that had been fitted the week before

Anyway, I think you might get more luck persuing that route as after all it is the council highways people that are at fault for not keeping the road in good repair.
I got the number off of my local councils web site, so try yours for the same.

Cheers,
John.

John thanks for the advice, I could do that, but this would not have happened in any other car. I also do not have a conclusive reason from them for the refusal. I again spoke to the service manager yesterday and was promised a letter... Lets see what it says - particularly of the wheel that never entered the pothole...

Fingers crossed for you mate.

Btw, my tyre place told me they are seeing more & more buckled wheels as the trend for bigger and wider wheels grows. Apparently they see far more buckled audi wheels than any other though

I would agree with this suggestion Diesel because see my recent experience as of this week.

- during a recent change of front tyres one of my front alloys seemed to have a deviation apparent during wheel balancing. I popped into my local Audi dealership and they checked and agreed with my diagnosis but would not change the alloy citing Audi HQ (UK) as the reason
- I spoke with Audi UK/customer service and it became obvious why the dealership would not change the alloy! Audi UK are asking dealerships to send in the "bent" alloy before they will approve any claim, hence dealerships are overtly cautious as they don't want to agree to honour the claim and then find subsequently that Audi decide the alloy "bending" does not comply in their opinion. In such a scenario the dealership is left "out of pocket"
- Interestingly, Audi UK they had not recorded a contact / claim from my dealership, but following my call they (my dealership) contacted a specifc person (supplied by me) at Audi UK customer services and my alloy was subsequently changed by my dealership without being checked by Audi UK, although they retained the "bent" alloy

It seems that Audi Uk's comments are being interpreted very differently and conservatively by dealerships, understandably so.

Anyhow the point of this diatribe being, dealerships are still honoring the terms of the lifetime warranty. PM me if you want the dealership and Audi UK person who expedited my claim ...another option

To see if you have the 'safety' wheel, then check the part number behing the center cap - 4D0 601 025 T 8.5Jx18H2 ET20 The T identifies the 'safety' wheel.

I think the hard wheels are suffixed AE rather than T if I remember correctly.

cracked wheel

Post by carlosfandango » Fri Jul 01, 2005 12:34 pm

I have the hard compound wheels on my car, I was driving along the other day when the car felt a bit strange so I pulled over to find the tyre flat with a curse I had a new tyre fitted, this to went flat so I took it back and they found a cracked wheel the crack is about 2 inches from the inside of the rim. The wheels are a little scuffed nasty big curbs where I live but not on the inside of the rim.

My question is has any body else had this happen and how did or how do you think Audi will react to this?

It says in the RS4 buyersGuide that 'Bent wheels are okay if soft but if hard type will cost you money' What exactly does this mean? I'm viewing a car this weekend what exactly should I be looking for, is it easy to spot a bent wheel?

'Bent wheels are okay if soft but if hard type will cost you money'
It means that if you bend the hard ones, they don't get replaced.... Also, a little birdie told me that Audi UK will now only replace soft wheels with bent ones, no more soft ones (Yet to be confirmed)

Not really. I have mine checked whenever I get new tyres, or rotate the tyres. At the weekend I did notice a slight vibration at 80 and 120 mph (On the Autobahn), but I'm not sure if a weight has fallen off.

Bent rims aren't really an issue as long as they are the genuine Audi RS4 soft rim, as you can get them changed.
