Braking issue

Hi all, a month into B5 RS4 ownership and I'm happy as larry, car is mint, just had it in for timing belt, water pump and thermostat, all is well.

Couple of issues though and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light?

Sometimes on cold start up there's a funny whining noise, it goes gradually as the car warms up to correct idle speed. Only seems to happen sometimes though?

It had all new genuine discs and pads all round as part of the deal, and the brakes just feel funny. They work fine but the pedal has different feels, it's almost as if the ABS is coming in, if doing long progressive braking and sometimes the ABS does kick in when coming to a halt then other times it's fine, I'm thinking ABS sensor, or hopefully not the ABS pump  . I have no codes or warnings on the dash but it just doesn't inspire confidence that's all.

Apart from those issues the car is great, and I'm getting a new steering wheel as the garage that carried out the work ripped mine (alcantara) - nothing against the garage, top work and a really nice bloke to boot, just accidents happen! Works out better in the long run to be honest, the emblem on mine has lost it's red and the alcantara is worn beyond repair!

It's going back in to get the issues looked at but in the meantime any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Evening dude. Not much goes on this forum for the B5. I check it occasionally, pop on to the Audi SRS forum. But the standard brakes are not the best as only 2 pot. It's quite common for brake upgrade. I went the Porsche Cayenne route with 6 pots. Anyway when was the brake fluid last changed. Also the whirring on start up is probably the cold start secondary warm up. Come on when under a certain temp. Do a Google search for full info. Lots on their about it.

Areet man, thanks for the reply, yeah I had B7 RS brakes on my S4, they were a hell of a lot better! The braking performance isn't too bad, but it's strange pedal feel that is worrying me, it isn't very confidence inspiring, especially when it gets up to speed a lot quicker than it stops! I'll check the secondary warm up too dude. Thanks for the advice!

It sounds like the secondary air injection pump. Unplug it and see if the noise stops. These pumps can be removed, blanking plates fitted & coded out.

Sounds like a cracked abs ring.
