If it helps, I had a play with a new M3 (already posted) from a roundabout going along a stretch of dual carriageway. I was behind him and a couple of times he was baulked by other cars so we had repeated opportunities to accelerate before the road eventually cleared. On every occasion I was held back by him until he eventually pulled over and I overtook, at which time we were travelling at well over 100, I would say 140 before I rolled it off. I am running an MTM stage 1 with an assumed 420bhp. I would say that provided you don't make a Horlicks of a gearchange your money is in the bank. (In view of recent circumstances you had better make that in your pocket).

I have owned two E46 M3s in my time and notice the 0-60 time is about the same as thew newer V8 M3 which as it happens is about the same as a standard B5 RS4. So a remapped rs4 should easily be quicker then a standard v8 M3 to sixty. I actually think the M3 would fair better at higher speeds where areodynamics play a big part.

Perhaps, but the M3 is restricted, a re-mapped RS4 is not, location permitting, it wouldn't be long before the 155 was dispatched and :assflash: to the M3. Don't think you'd be wise going into that territory on public roads though.

By the way, the rate at which a re-mapped RS4 goes from a ton in 4th gear, you'll need more than aerodynamics to bail you out :biggrin2:

Just seen this thread! The trouble is...who will "bottle it" first speed wise? Will you decide enough is enough at 100, 120, 140, 160 or will he? It's not a case of who has the biggest balls but who can afford to lose his licence for a few years and spend some time at one of the hotels run by her Majesty?

Is it really worth it? I think not.

Go for it on a track if you have to - the open road isn't the place, unless you go to Germany or the IoM.

I had a run-in with a very enthusiastic M3 last night and from an excelleration point of view he couldn't touch me. Might have been a different story if it wasn't a straight road though
