I've not owned both but have owned a B5 (current) and a B7 RS and recently drove the C5, RS6 so feel I can at least compare them. I did feel as you say it was very lardy but had lots of grunt. I don't like the idea of a tip box when you can have a manual 6speed box. Racing in the 6 was also a PITA as it drops gear and kicks down alot, it's hard to find the right gears too and made drag racing very tricky even in tip mode it just didn't seem right.

The V8 is a peach though as you say and one rerason why people love this car so much.

Wise words David,it's human nature to think the car you drive is the best,I've driven at length an rs6 but not owned, was not for me at all, point and fire missile, the auto box leaves you feeling not in charge of driving the car, driving round turbo boost in the twisties is one thing but throw in an auto box aswell really doesn't work well if you want to use it's performance, the b5 is alot more nimble and has potential to handle and stop much better if upgraded,it's hard to help you decide without a little more info as to what you want/expect from your next car
