I need different spacers on the front, the wheels do not fill the arches like the rears do. I think its because the fronts are only 8.5 wide.

Another thing I have noticed is that since the wheels have gone on the traction control engages a lot more under acceleration, it pisses me off a little. Anybody know why this may happen?

Thanks for the comments guys I'm feeling well chuffed, when I posted a thread about maybe buying them people were a bit reserved on the wheels and got mixed reviews. I know the LM's look great and are regarded as the "best" wheels but when so many people have them, for me, they lose their appeal a little. I just wanted to be a bit different.

Are you running different tyre sizes? - I'm not sure what you mean, they are 35 profile front and rear, which was different to the original (standard) wheels.

I was only asking due to you using different width wheels front and rear.

Your traction issue maybe related to the above....

Ah, I see. I never thought of it like that. Do other people have the same issues when running different tyre widths front and back?

Not many people round these parts run different size wheels / tyres front to back. Your front and rear tyres may be 35 profile, but if they're a different width then they will more than likely have a different rolling radius, which could be the reason for your traction issue, as R33V-Spec pointed out.

if your using the same size tyres on different width rims then the tyre on the wider rim will be stretched out more and maybe causing the rolling rasius to decrease and be different on the front and rear axle which may cause problems with the center diff.
if the front and rear axles are rotating at different speeds then the esp sytem will think that one end is losing grip hence the traction control kicking in.

could also be wrong . jim :?: :biggrin2: :nogarors4:

The rear tyres do look a little stretched over the rim. Can anybody tell me the ideal tyre width for a 35 prifile tyre on both a 8.5 and 9.5 wide rim?

This is just a thought but, the tyre wear front to rear tends to be different, would this not have the same effect or will the differences be too minimal?

Thansk for the help guys, this is much appreciated.

usually a 255 width for 8.5 and 265 or 275 for 9.5 width wheels, but you need to get the rolling radius the same. the r8 runs different width wheels front to rear and different size tyres but i dont know the wheel or tyre sizes :nogarors4:

From Audi's website:

Wheels
The Audi R8 is fitted with 5-arm double-spoke design 19-inch alloy wheels. The 235/40 size tyres at the front and up to 285/35 at the rear provide all the road-holding you need.

Am I doing any damage if the radius is different?

Only thing I heard was if the difference is a right to left rather than front-rear you can wind the rear differential up, hence particularly with four wheel drive its a good idea to replace tyres in pairs and /or altogether with tyres of the same make and size/ rolling radius- NB Was informed that different sized tyres in any position/permutation may constitute an MOT failure- can't believe this would be the case if fitted with different sizes OEM, but then I got failed on my Smart with white LED sidelights at the front by some over zealous jobsworth.

i'm also experiancing a vibration under braking. It only happens initialy once the brakes have started slowing the car it goes, is this liked to the possible difference in diameter? There is no vibration under a constant speed so I think this rules out balancing?

Any more thoughts?
