My B5 RS wont start :(

Post by pcfnet » Wed Nov 11, 2009 5:03 pm

I drove my car everyday, few days ago my car suddenly cant be start. The start fire very well, doesnt sounds like relatd to the battery. The LCD display shows the low coolant level... so I fill up the coolant with water, the warning sign goes.

I VAG my car, comes up with the following:

17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
P1570 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I clear this error immediately, and it wont show up anymore. However I am not able to start the car still...

Today I do one more thing, change the battery of my key. Done but still no luck

anyone here has similar experience?

Try a different key if you have one.

To distinguish a key fault from any other fault, if its the key the engine will fire but immediately cut out and the immobiliser warning light will be flashing on dash.
If it wont crank then probably battery - common at this time of year - use your dash voltmeter and report back - are the lights dim?
If it simply wont fire at all, you need to check for fuel and spark

the other day a tech guy came to give a brief diagnose of my car. he found that there is no fuel pump to the engine. with my information that there is no error from VAG, he immediately told me the fuel pump is toast.

Today I am just thinking whether the fuse may be toasted instead of the pump. I will check it out tomorrow morning. do you guys have any idea about whats going on?

Nothing lasts forever, I think it is fuse 28 but the cover will indicate which fuse. If its intact check for continuity at the pump if it has power its new pump time..

im not too hot on the vag engine management but im sure the crank sensor would give u this issue- it wouldnt show a fault because if its there but not reading the engine turning! if the management doesnt know the engine is turning it wouldnt fuel!

The fuel pump runs momentaraly when you turn on the ignition to prime the fuel system, if you have power to the pump connections the pump is faulty.

My RS4 reborn !! our guess is right, the fuel pump is not working. My mate has helped me spending at least 8hrs on changing the fuel pump. its not easy to take the pump out but its even more difficult to put it back to the tank !!!

I am so happy :)

you gotta love that feeling when she fires up again! :D
Touch wood been lucky with my audis but had a few heartaches over the years- took us weeks to get a beach buggy going once - the joy of getting it going soon turned sour when I got totally done by my dad for caning it around for its inaugural drive on their lawn! :D
Happy motoring , si

Fuel pump went on my campervan on way down to Bath a few yrs ago. It was a 12V wire to the pump that had burnt from excessive heat in the engine bay (no surprises there on the old air cooled engines that get soooo hot in traffic) and it too my mechanic mate a good few hours to work that out!!! Glad you got it all sorted mate.
