What size tyres??

Post by taclaa » Sat Nov 07, 2009 3:40 pm

Hello again guys.

Ok after posting about the over sensitive ESP and finding out that tyres are the more than likely problem i popped over to my local tyre fitter, a guy i have known for some time now. He recommends the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric , I have had the old style F1's on previous cars and liked them lots so I'm quite confident in going for these.

There are 2 tyre sizes I have seen, I have 255/35R18's at the moment, but I have seen 225/40R18's used also.

What would you guys recommend and why?

Either size slightly over £600 fitted.

Cheers

Tac

Stick with the 255/35s. Goodyear F1s are good but I personally prefer PS2s.

Stock it is 255 35 18 for summer and 225 40 18 for winter.

With 19s most people use 265 30 19, I run my 19s with 235 35 19.

Anyone on here using Continentals, Pirellis or Dunlops? All seem to do well in Which? tests, albeit a different size (205).

I used Michelin PS2s and Goodyear F1s on my Golf R32 and got on well with them.

Got Continentals, albeit on my 20's, and more than happy with them - will probably have the same when the time comes to replace them.

Still got a set of the old Goodyear F1 GSD3's on my OEM wheels, and my S3 as well. On the S3 they feel at least as good as the Bridgestone S03's that were on the car previously.

I think the Toyo T1R's are a great set of tyres. Plenty of grip not much road noise and very slight tramlining!
