Suspension overhaul

Post by A20LEE » Fri Aug 22, 2008 2:42 pm

In the process of collecting parts for the suspension overhaul, and looking at replacing all the bushes front and rear. My thoughts are at the moment poly bush everything apart from the bushes that mount to the subframes thus sharpening things up but not increasing any transmitted vibration. Anyone else gone this route? Order the factory C links for the front, RS2 droplinks for the rear and spoke to MRC about the strengthened subframe mounts so far, ooh and got a H&R Fat ARB kit tucked away too.

Any advice?

034 Motorsport is now offering a set of subframe bushings for 180$ (front OR rear, so for a complete set you'll have to spend 360$).

For the C links go this route:

I'm replacing all the bushes front and rear too, with Powerflex ones.

Upgraded Motor/Trans mounts (034 Motorsport) also help.

What do you mean by rubber boots? An chance you'll have the strengthening plates in stock by the end of this coming week? Like to get them fit on saturday for the drive down to Edition 38.

the scooby droplinks have open balljoints - they will wear really quick without protection.

give us a shout middle of the week on the strenghteners.

I've been spending some quality time under my wheel arches replacing the wheel bearings/CV's boots and hub flanges and notice the suspension link arms have ball joints on the end. So is it better to renew the whole arm rather than poly bushing or replacing OEM bushes if the ball joints could be worn?

IF your talking about the arms, then you can't buy the ball joints seperately.

Any reason why you changed your hub flanges, and were your bearings shot?

because they were cheap on ebay from stafford audi and thought why not? One of the bearing is humming to decide to do both fronts and the CV boots.

Yeh they're prone to CV boots, infact the whole B5 range incl. Passats!

Bearings are also surprisingly common to the S/RS4's aswell.

Good luck with the rest of your suspension overhaul!

Mines in for a stint in the garage for a full checkover, considered poly bushes but wary of making the ride even harder or increasing tramlining, anyone done it yet and give feedback

Part number 2 in the picture,

And parts 2,8,9,10

I'm guessing that if you replace the suspension it wouldbe stupid not replace these parts as they will be knackered?
