I'm sure other will offer more specific advice but generally they are very tough and high mileage isn't a problem, what seems to cause problem is hard use and abuse.
Having said that there seems to be an issue with cars that have had long life (AVS) servicing due to cam wear which can cause misfires.
I sourced one for a friend, it had done 98k and had 1 owner, it was on longlife (20k intervals approx) and was superb having covered a lot of its mileage on trips to Germany.
Soon after purchase he got the management light on due to lambda probe fault but then again I changed one of mine at 65k miles so can't blame the miles.
For the performance available they are indeed bulletproof just don't end up with one that's being sold due to a (rare) major fault.

History. Thats a must. Specialist if possible. Some main dealers just don't have a clue.
Enthusiast owned. Yes it may have been drive a little harder (sometimes!) but the love and care we give these fine cars is worth a great deal imo.
Also, try and get one which has had replaced suspension bushes, cambelt and brakes.
Good Luck. If in any doubt, walk away
