710A DVs standard fit on RS4??

Post by CliveH » Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:11 am

I'm being careful not to "hijack" other threads - inspected a car for a forum member yesterday, http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=53265 , and discovered it had 710A DVs fitted - were the 710Ns not fitted as standard to the RS4s...?

ASAIK 2.7 s4/rs4 fitted with the A's but N's fitted to 1.8T TT from factory.

Simple and cheap upgrade to give you peace of mind.

My rs4 has 710A's, and this has always puzzled me why Audi didn't use the "N".

When did the 'N' revision come out?

710A was std fit on the RS4, the 710N version (rather than revision) came out for the 225BHP 1.8T engine and although the diaphragm is not as thick as the 710A, it is actually less prone to tearing.

Just swapped out two 710A's off 2001 B5 RS4 for two new 710N's. Neither 710A would hold vacuum from the nipple - pulled both apart for some fun and each had about 10-15m split in rubber diaphragm

It seems the 710C was used on some S4's in lieu of the 710A. To my layman eyes the A and C DV's look very similar (I now have duds of both in the store room somewhere). Audiworld has some commentary on it including the following (no responsibility accepted if all this is wrong!)

"... the TT uses a 710N valve which has a stiffer spring with a rubber diaphram. the 710C has the same spring with 3.5mm of travel up and down and a brass piston dome.

the 710N has a 7mm of travel with a rubber piston. ... "
