Re: Using Iphone 5

I had an AMI link fitted after market by the dealer. This gave me an iPod connector in the glove box which works just as it should. And I still get to keep the 6CD changer!

Re: R8 V10 tyres

Thanks Brooner, I shall look them up. I used Rab Sillett who does all the bikers tyres in Aberdeen. I was a little worried putting the car up the slope of his compact garage, but there were no scrapes. All alloys removed and replaced safely - which is how my friends had said it would be. No probs si...

Re: R8 V10 tyres

Just as a follow up on this. I was out for a boys drive around Aberdeenshire (2 Ferrari's, 2 GT3's and me - great fun BTW) and they all recommended a local tyre man. In the end I put on the special Audi recommended RO1 Pirelli's for £210 cheaper than anyone else in town - top job fella! Interestingl...

R8 V10 tyres

Well this was a new one on me. Had the car in at the dealers for a service and asked them for a quote on new tyres. They came back with an unsurprisingly large number which was a bit more than I'd been quoted at Costco, but not a huge amount more. The surprise came when I was told that because my ca...

Dodgy horn?

OK, I know this post is a bit trivial, but something's been bugging me for a few weeks now. Being a courteous driver (as all R8 drivers are), I rarely have need to let others know I am there by use of the horn. However, a few weeks back (see above), some fairly major cutting up at a certain roundabo...

Re: R8 V10 - manual box

Moved from that RS4 manual all are agreed is so sweet to the V10 manual. They are definitely different, and just take a little getting used to. The power delivery is greater (obviously) in the V10 but it's still easy enough to get the clutch control right and avoid any jerkiness. The only thing i wo...

Re: Spoiler stuck

Hi Goron, I've seen this a couple of times on my V10 coupe. It happens when the car is stationary and the spoiler is manually activated and won't go back down. The way it resets is to drive above 66mph (the activation speed) then the next time your speed drops below 20mph (the deactivation speed) th...

Re: Missing that V8 rumble

Try the V8, then try the V10, but have the windows open when you do, the soundproofing inside any R8 is just a bit too good. Having said that, at 7000rpm+, the howl of the V10 is superb, a real supercar noise.

Good luck with whatever you end up with.

Re: R8 better than an rs4 ?

Having had my RS4 Avant for 4 years, the time had come for a good old mid-life crisis and plump for the R8 V10. To directly compare the two is not really the thing to do as they are so different. The RS4 is by far the most practical machine, delivering fabulous performance with room for 5 plus their...

Re: R8 V10 rear Bumper - is it painted?

Hi Baker,
Afraid it's not painted - just a high gloss piece of plastic. Don't know if you could fit a V10 spare to a V8 but it would be a pricey deal if you could. It's one piece encompassing the fins under the rear lights, which are also glossy black.

Thanks all - I feel more reassured that something expensive isn't about to happen. Brooner - you don't have a lilac B5 often seen on the South Deeside Road in the mornings do you?. If so, I'm the blue Avant in the left lane.

Cheers again

Thanks lengster - does it clear up quickly on the dyno? It didn't last long and I figured melting aluminium would have a more noticeable (and permanent) effect.

Sparks from exhaust

OK - so this is the first chance in weeks (literally) that the weather's been good enough to open up the throttle. The car was very lumpy while warming up and it just felt like it needed a blast to clear it's throat. So... after warming up, I took it up to 7000/7500rpm (not to the limit) and all was...

RE: Tyre pressure warning

I have this problem every winter. The Audi shop have not yet managed to fault find. Additionally, I can time when the warning comes up - usually at 10-12mins after starting the journey. Sometimes the warning corrects itself and sometimes not. I have learned to live with it and wait until the summer....

Just put 4 new Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on, replacing my previous PS2's after 17,000 miles. So far, the 3's feel even better than the 2's. Picked them up at Costco for £270 each. As a guide, National wanted about £340 per tyre.
