I had this in my Allroad, I'll bet it's the trim at the bottom of the windscreen is slightly detached and then any water that runs down the screen on the LHS runs straight into the pollen filter. I scoured a scrapyard and found a Passat pollen filter cover which fits perfectly over the pollen filter...
