Re: New owner + maintenance log

Well, my time with 2003's fastest saloon ends here. The Tesla finally arrived after a 5 month wait, and with trade-in values soaring, it was time to say goodbye to the RS6. Ironically it's one of the most reliable vehicles I've owned after 1.5 years and 5k miles together. It was bittersweet to see i...

Re: New owner + maintenance log

Thought I'd provide a little update now that the RS6 has been in my care for over a year... I took it to a renowned racing shop specializing in German cars to have the ABS issue checked. They replaced the brake pressure sensor, which now makes the lights come on every time. Oh, and the power locks n...

Re: Suspension shocker!!! Advice or help required..

Jonnyball, I'm sorry you're having this 'inherited' issue. I understand why some people have replaced their DRC, but your example shows coilovers are not necessarily a long term fix and maintenance will probably be required eventually. I've been very happy with DRC (& Hotkiss ARB) for last 8 years ...

Re: Door mirror switch

That's exactly what I need, and about 80% cheaper than anywhere in the US. Too bad that site seems to ship everywhere in the world *except* the states

Re: New owner + maintenance log

So I've officially had 2003's fastest sedan for 6 months now - she has yet to leave me stranded, so my fears about owning such a beast decrease a little each day... Since it's been a year since the PO had the oil changed, I ordered a kit that included 10 quarts of Pentosin 5W-40 and a German filter....

Boot strip will be chrome on the A6, though. Not brushed aluminium like on the RS6.
Well damn. Thanks for saving me a trip back though!

Re: New owner + maintenance log

Because I can't seem to leave this thing alone, and an 03 A6 Quattro popped up in the junkyard by my house, I decided to go see if there were any parts worth scavenging. Found a replacement mirror for $10 (new from Audi is $375), and a replacement headlight switch bezel. The donor car - I might go b...

Do you guys not just start with a 6-flat hex socket to crack them off? Have had one shear off once that was properly seized, but have never had the hex mangle up.
In hindsight, that's definitely what I'll do, I've just never needed anything more than a spanner.

Re: New owner + maintenance log

Which extractor sockets did you buy??? I had some issues with my front bleed nipples last year but it actually passed the MOT and didnt need bled, but i'd still like to get them changed at some point Here's the one I bought. For better or worse, in my state in the US we don't require any kind of MO...

Did you just cycle some fluid through by foot, or did you have a pressure bleeder at >30psi?
Just cycled by foot the old fashioned way!

Re: New owner + maintenance log

Being on winter break, I decided to knock a few more maintenance items off the list that probably haven't been done in years (if ever). First up was the rear diff fluid - nothing special, just drain and fill. https://i.imgur.com/YCsLbsg.jpg Then I figured, brake fluid is cheap and important, I bet t...

Re: New owner + maintenance log

A couple small maintenance items on the RS6 over the past few weeks: Chasing down a CEL for the SAI system, I started by replacing a bunch of dry rotted air line. It didn't hurt, but still hasn't solved the problem. Next step is to pull the kombi valves and clean out the carbon. https://i.imgur.com/...

Re: New owner + maintenance log

While I was underneath wrenching on the trans, I also happened to notice this loose intercooler air hose. I suspect that's the source of my intermittent CELs for running rich. Threw a new clamp on so we'll see if the code returns.

Re: New owner + maintenance log

Decided to change out the transmission fluid this weekend, which of course became a 3 day ordeal (one day to let it drain overnight, one day to get almost done only to strip a bolt, and another day to wrap up). At 136k miles, it was time Old fluid was the greenish OEM color https://i.imgur.com/GX6P2...
